MrOlaf Posted April 4, 2015 So I was walking out of lowes and was checking out a NV cargo and saw on the bumper this bolt is starting to rust (low grade SS bolt maybe?) Anyways, so when I got back to my van I checked on mine and it was starting to rust as well. Anyone know how to handle this? I don't want it to get any worse and the other van I saw had streaks of rust coming down the bumper :(

dneiding Posted April 5, 2015 Happened on our 2013 NV passenger about a year ago took it to the dealer and they replaced the bumper and bolts under warranty. Just noticed that it is rusting against like before and now I am at 35k miles. Took it in a few weeks ago and the service manager said he would fix it but wanted to wait and get some feedback from Nissan on how to prevent it from happening again. He told me there is a Nissan car that does the same thing on a rear trim bezel. They put a plastic film on it to fix it. I am waiting to hear back on what they plan to do with my bumper and will let you know.
MrOlaf Posted April 5, 2015 Thanks for the info guys :-)
vanguy Posted April 5, 2015 It happens on mine too. I try to wax mine twice a year & make a special effort to cover those bolts in wax to help with the rust. It doesn't solve the problem but it helps.
NoEffinMini4Me Posted April 6, 2015 I am getting rust build up in the rear door hinges. Not sure what to do about it other than let the dealer get at it.
dneiding Posted April 9, 2015 Update: service manager emailed me and said they will be replacing the bumper and bolts and that his engineer contact at Nissan wants to examine the rusted parts. Service manager said they also have two other new NVs on their lot with the same problem.
MrOlaf Posted April 11, 2015 If I take my van to the dealer do you think they will give me a hard time fixing the issue for my bolts/bumper? Based on the pictures you've seen I don't know if mine is as bad as yours
dneiding Posted April 12, 2015 (edited) Yours is as bad or worse than mine. I traded my 2013 in this weekend and while at the dealership I was talking to the GM and he said that Nissan is fixing this under 'good will' as the appearance part of the warranty is 12mo/12k. Like I mentioned previously, this is the second time it has happened to me. I pick up my new 2015 Monday or Tuesday and expect to have the same issues. However, so long as they keep fixing it for free I guess I don't care too much. Edited April 12, 2015 by dneiding
RICK Posted April 14, 2015 i too have a minor issue with the front tow hooks that were not fully painted gloss black. pointed it out to them and the answer is a can of spray paint is $3.00. walked the lot and some are like mine and some are fully painted. amaze me that they can't just touch them up with a can of paint as it's very obvious to the customer with them sticking out the front.
