  1. I'm off in the morning to Panama city beach FL with my daughter and her new motorcycle in the van so she can start studying smalltooth sawbilled sharks and their reproductive traits !!! I'll let you know how the V6 low top does with 1500lbs of girl stuff inside @ 80 mph down the road .... Glenn
  2. I posted about the mudflaps way back, but I think I may drill some holes in the mirror bottoms too ! If you've got one with electric mirrors, I wold think it's a must do ... My drivers mirror always spills h20 when I close the door , got to check the passenger side ... Thanks for that tip ! Glenn
  3. Same to you ; Had a last minute change of plans , kids decided to come to my house , so dad got to cook all day !:) Glenn
  4. I've yet to have issue with my manual mode control , turn it on , OD. locked out . :) I use mine mainly for downshifting for some compression braking while traveling . (ASD will know the grades I mean in the north west corner of our state , and the joining states ...) And occasionally for a steep climb when stuck behind a semi in traffic... And Vstar , good to have a current Nissan tech on here now too , I've been twisting wrench's for over 40 years now , But I gave up my GTR tech position a few years ago due to some strange management issue's ....I mainly do british restoration work now and play with my motorcycles .... Glenn And the issue could be intermittent temp./humidity based connector/terminal issue .The most fun to pin down ... You know how small the terminals have gotten now.....
  5. Sorry for your pain Rick ; I got home From a trip to TN. last weekend with my bikes and trailer w/gear. Back and forth @ 65 -70 mph , with the return trip in the pouring rain (aka 45 -50 mph) ..And I hate to tell you but thanks to ASD Dad's Airbox mod my average for the1900 mile trip was 23.2 mpg.w/ my v6. Gotta go to grannys ! Glenn :)
  6. Yeah I work to much and don't get here as much as I would like .... Thanks for the likes !! Glenn :)
  7. I'm pretty sure they are 6mm x 1.5 or 1.25 don't remember which .I beleive there is a upfitters guide somewhere with the loading info your after. Chris C.M. might chime in with some better info ... Glenn
  8. I like it :) I still need to find time to make a headliner panel for my cargo ... Did you attach your headliner panel with bolts and washers to the existing nut locations in the roof beams ? Thanks, Glenn
  9. i think the truck buying public doesn't really know about our box's... Nissan should be advertising the passenger model more , it fills a void in the market quite well , and just because of the serious frame under them , along with the form and function , I don't understand how any commercial users would even consider the other offerings out there !? Still love mine and drive it everyday ... And I like that our community is missing all the internet pretenders that clutter alot of other forums .:) And I'm still saving for some rims and tires, My OE. ones just won't wear out ! So far I've had one problem with my van , one of the batteries in a tire pressure sensor went south . so it would always read low and tell me i had a issue , even though I knew the pressure to be fine ...Still on the original brake pads too , about 35% remaing all the way around , not bad for 65k+ on something this heavy ... Glenn B)
  10. Look at a nv cargo at the locations of the OE. tie downs in the floor , and look under your carpet/mat and see if at least the bolt holes are there ? Might be able to just bolt in factory tie downs ? Just a guess , as I've never even looked inside a nvp .... Glenn And if your going to drill thru the floor to mount some , study the other side real close , and use a drill bit stop on your bit ...you don't want to hit anything under the floor !
  11. Glad you had a great trip :)
  12. Good luck with that , I've never seen any mpg figures published by Nissan . So who ya gonna sue ? The salesman that told you ? At the most I would go talk with the GM of the dealership , tell them of the issue you are facing and get out of the deal if possible . No lemon law applies as you have not given them a chance to rectify the problem yet. My NV 1500 s low roof averages 19 to 20 around town on my daily commute , and I get into the low/mid 20's when traveling .And it's been doing it for about 65k miles now ... It's got a whole lot to do with how you drive a 5000lb+ box Glenn B)
  13. 1 go back to where you got the tire .... 2. Look at your owners manual , all is explained . 3. Chain passes thru center of wheel , With valve stem side up if my memory works ...
  14. Check this site out ; http://www.factorynissanparts.com/Partlocator/index.cfm?siteid=214081 Thats where I got all the interior panels and clips for my bare bones 1500s . Prices are fair . Just use the search for the model you want the pieces from ... Glenn
  15. Possibly on the left front fender , mimicking the stock radio antenna on the right side . lots of room there and then your coax can come in thru the firewall . If I was gonna go for a permanent mount , that's where i would start ... Glenn
  16. I run mobile one 5w20 with K&N filters and change it every 5k . But when new change as above , the first couple oil changes are the most important in the life of your engine ... Glenn
  17. 1; Don't mess with the IPDM (intelligent power distribution module ) / Fuse block under the hood . 2; It will take anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes for all the modules in your van to go to sleep , every time you disconnect/reconnect power, the capacitors in all units start to dump and then recharge . The IPDM helps with this . 3: your battery has lived out it's useful service life ... 4; Don't trust electronic bat./charge system testers , NOTHING beats a good old snap-on VAT-40 analog/carbon pile tester. A good surface charge will fool most electronic testers ... Glenn
  18. They are sensitive to the driveline being loaded when put in park .If your on any type of incline , set pbrake then put in park... Works for me ... Glenn
  19. Mine comes my dearly missed cj7 rock crawler (you know the type , 5.0 HO ,nv4500 gearbox ,ox lockers in dana 44's etc. etc.) It was the plate on it , axulsuv = actual sport utility vehicle ... And I've just used it for 20 odd years now ... Glenn
  20. yep , bare bones 1500 v6 :) and my trials riding buddies envy it !!! :)
  21. :love_shower: OK ... 1180 mile round trip , with about 3 hrs. parked in Atlanta traffic @ 98degrees with the ac cranked , 2 bikes on trailer , one in van , 3 big coolers and all of our other gear in van ... 22.5 average for the trip by pen & paper ! mpg monitor showed 23 at one point . about 2 mpg better than last year !!! GREAT BASIC MOD , THANKS!!!!!!!! Glenn
  22. As ASD Dad said above , Document everything you can and go for the lemon law . It will get fixed or replaced :) . Years ago I was the shop Foreman at one of the largest Toyota Service Departments in so.cal. (we were the #1 ranked service department in the country for a few years . ) Long story short , I bought my then wife a 4cyl. Tacoma when they were first released and had nothing but problems with it from day one . Everything from valve train issues to excessive fuel and oil consumption , and a bizarre harmonic vibration through the chassis , to the interior just flat coming un-stitched and plastic pieces just not fitting and falling off . Truck was worked on extensively by me and my team and our local tech rep . Every time we fixed one issue , something else would fail . I used the law , documented everything and the courts got Toyota to replace the truck , not a single issue with the second truck in the time I owned it . The first truck ended up at Toyota's tech school in socal and got completely torndown , One of my buddies was and still is a instructor there and just about wrote a book as to what was wrong with the way that truck had been assembled, everything from bad welds and valve guides to malformed brackets and missing/untorqued fastners . And we had only put just over 1100 miles on the truck . Be patient and persistent you can get satisfaction , and Toyota had no ill will against me for the incident , as I went on to instruct for them in Irvine too . :)
  23. Not long term results , but after a weeks worth of driving my normal commute (in the dog days of summer, ac cranked up ) my mileage avg. display has settled at 20.1 ... Usually @ 19.6 by now . I still feel low rpm response a bit better , and I can hear the intake now , not offensive though . I've got a trials event next month that will be just over a 1000 mile round trip That I've done before , so we'll see how she performs .
  24. ASD ; Interesting that you put this up , I cleaned the K&N in my 1500 V6 yesterday morning (after around 35k , overcleaning and oiling kills K&N's !) and just a sliver of the filter edge showed any dirt at all . While the filter was drying I happened to log on and see your post :).So having a little time on my hands I got out my flexible shaft dremel/rotozip (big one I use for porting heads etc.) and put a small cut off wheel tip on it and cut the snorkel carefully without removing the airbox . It ended up just about flush with flange it snaps into , cleaned up any rough edges I created and vacuumed the box out and reinstalled the filter . Only put about 10 miles on it yesterday , but my Butt-Dyno says low rpm response and torque is a tick better , no discernible noise change . As my van is a freak and gets fantastic mpg , (22mpg round trip to NC. last weekend for a trials event with bike trailer) I'll run a few tanks around town and see what she does . Sure as heck won't hurt anything . Glenn
  25. I've been wrench twisting as a ase master for about 40 years now ...And I can speak from experience That unless you get wide band sensors and a programmable ECU , most so called plug and play chips are BS ... And dyno time ain't cheap ... But one of my spec miata motor's did set a lap record at robling road a few years back , that still stands for a 1.6 .... About 75 hrs into tune time on a "stock motor "with a "factory" ecu" ... Don't ask ... :) Suspension helps ..., You've got to understand that most folks won't say their chip did nothing ... but take their money . The factory ecu's are generally the best compromise between performance and emissions , And as a rule are pretty hard to improve on for a daily driver . The ecu will only function within a fairly narrow band of inputs / outputs . or it limps ... Most "chips" on the market these days confuse temp readings the ecu see's aka intake air temp is 20 F and coolant temp is 195 f , so the ecu fattens the mixture just a tad and tries to get the fuel trim within it's parameters..... Sometimes tech sucks , gimme a 440 sixpack anyday .... Glenn
