  1. My guess is they are using the GVWR for the low roof cargo van not the NVP.
  2. Anyone have this happen? You go to put the key into the ignition, touch the ignition and it clears the trip computer. It makes a peculiar noise when it does this, so you will know it reset to zero. Static electricity? It doesn't seem to reset or interfere with anything else. Just annoying if you want daily or trip distance. (2012 models show mpg and it doesn't reset this.)
  3. Have a safe trip to ? and back. We're finally headed to the 4 corners area and Hovenweep National Monument early next week, also with an eye on the weather. Rain this weekend, 4 days of sun, then more rain. Still cold at night. Short trip, so we may just return to avoid the rain. Along with testing out your build, let us know how your side screen worked. Our's may get some use as there is some sort of noseeum that comes out only in May. If it is cool enough in the evening we may be able to keep the ph Windows mostly closed. Noseeums come through like there is no screen...
  4. Our 2012 NV came with air in the tires and no mention of nitrogen. When I asked the local dealer what was his best price was for replacement tires, out came the $$$ nitrogen package. It included a warranty similar to the the extra warranty you can buy with tires. Still have air on the tires and tread life after 57k. although not related to nitrogen and psi, I am keeping track of the years on the tires and being more prone to failure in the middle of nowhere. (As an aside for cyclists using Stan's No Flats or similar product in their tires: Co2 cartridges will decrease the effectiveness of the sealant. Use Big Air or pump. The power of air.)
  5. Welcome. Let us know what you think of the dealer, especially service. You will have to explain chphilo.
  6. This happened to us when dealer service rotated the tires, but didn't change the psi or reset the TPMS. We had 80 psi in the front and 50 psi in the rear. Since TPMS only registers low psi, you and the dealer had no idea a sloppy pre-sale prep was done. When you have your tires rotated, make sure they reset the TPMS. 53 psi is what the dealer will set, so you are fine. Still complain to the dealer if only to make him aware that these vans are not Altimas with the same psi front and rear. Anyone have the $99 dealer nitrogen tire option? The dealer here pushes it, and it is on the msrp sticker as an add on.
  7. Here are 2 new camper conversions by SMB. The Transit EB has the 3.5 Eco-Boost and goes for $97k. Lots of interior room. We've seen a few Transit 4x4 conversions but none converted by SMB. The Chevy diesel 3500 is a Quigley 4x4 conversion and goes for $147k. No interior photos. SMB has converted a Sprinter 4x4, although the camper conversion we saw was built by someone else. Great looking conversion. From the rear the 4x4 versions look too tall and skinny. You expect them to go around corners on 2 wheels.
  8. If you were able to take it to your regular service dealership before or even around the expiration of the 3 year warranty part and have documentation, have them address this with the rep. If you get nowhere with the rep, call Nissan Commercial Consumer service and get a file going. If you took it to another dealership, you still have a record of this. Nissan Commercial will then contact your regular service dealership to obtain service records. If you followed the service manual recommendations, you have a good chance to make a case for what they likely will call "a one time only" fix. You may not have to, but push back hard on this particularly if the dealership screwed up. They should have at least taken it to a service bay to do what ASDad suggested.
  9. The manual reccomends using tow mode to control downhill speed. Believe me, it works and is needed to prevent shimmying when braking on long, steep downhills. What about uphill? I've not felt a need on the highway, but on dirt/gravel roads where you need to use 1st or 2nd gears. Will this give you a lower ratio, something closer to crawl? With the V8 I've always felt I have enough power, but what about sections of very rough or sandy roads where you slowly pick you way through. I suppose the same could be said for snow etc.
  10. That quote is $200+ more per sensor than we paid 2 years ago. Hard to tell from your description what is not working. If the sensors were pushed inside the bumper, they are toast. Probably still work but will not stay in place. Others may have glued them in? If the sensors are still in place, they and the bumper may be out of alignment. If they are beeping for no reason, they may be picking up something that is not there, shadow, slight drop off etc. I scrunched our rear bumper, right side from below. The sensors remained in place and seemed to work fine if I recall. Then again, I may have been too PO'd at my stupidity to notice. KMG posted the Nissan parts site, so look for his post or google Nissan parts.
  11. Not being commercial dealers explains it, but makes no sense from a public relations stand point regarding NVs. Odd that Nissan Roadside assistance didn't know better than to have your NV towed to a non-commercial dealer... One thing learned is don't have your NV towed to a non-commercial dealer. We keep a list of NV dealers for the area we will be traveling to be able to tell our insurance roadside assistance call center where it needs to be towed. But will they do it? Good luck with your Ford F-150.
  12. Ford certainly has the dealer network. You see at least 1 Transit on the lot no matter how small the town/dealership. Let us know how it compares after you have driven it awhile and if the dealer network is up to supporting it. I don't doubt your report that the "emergency" dealer did not do what was necessary to get your NV on the road, but did you try contacting NV Commercial or rep to get the dealer to respond. My one experience was not serious, as in did not strand us or drain our bank account. The service manager pointed out our 36k warranty had expired and was not interested in the fact that it was on on going, documented issue. I paid to get it back on the road and delt with NV commercial later. They paid for the repair. In your case, you had the longer warranty and any NV dealer should have done the work. Why wouldn't they? Not every NV is going to be driven within a 30 mile radius. This certainly is true for NVPs. Before you leave completely, give us the names of the 2 dealers and we will avoid them.
  13. If you go with a NV and want 4x4, buy it through the NV dealership. This way you won't have any warranty issues along the lines of "not my work, so no warranty." The NV choice seems to be Advanced or Quigley. You may pay more (dealer markup), but it probably is worth it. PM the owners on this forum who bought their 4x4s this way; both Advanced and Quigley are represented.
  14. 2017 will the 5 year point for NVs. Any changes in the works, or are they mainly focusing on the Infinity QV35?
  15. Eurocampers sells side and rear screens as well as clear plastic "doors" for high tops. Each at $400+... Not sure if they make them low tops. Then again, most home builds are high tops. In our case we wouldn't bother with an interior version as ours come off easily from inside or outside the van as well as fold back to let us in or out. Not so easy to reattach from the inside. It also fits in a stuff sack. rad
  16. Do you have to remove it when you close the door? That would be a big improvement over the skeeterbeater we made.
  17. Nice job. My effort is more along the lines to see what will work. I had a very old, large, unused screen that I used. For the rear window screen, I was able to save some of the factory seam tape. For the rest of the cut, I used metal duct repair tape ($6 for a 10 yard roll) on the edges. Euricamper recommends this tape for repairs. It pretty much disappears and takes on the texture of the screen. The front screens made by Eurocamper have cloth tape that the supplied Velcro (hook only) attaches to, which could tear overtime. We may try some of those glue on Velcro dots on the side windows screens...
  18. Rear windows are not the same size; right side is smaller and I had to cut down the left side template. I guess that is why NVs have so much glass across the back. Probably cheaper as well. Also had to leave a cut outs around the defrost connections. Only way to keep them in place is Velcro. I don't have much confidence that these will hold during our hot summers. For this reason, we will only use these when traveling. When it is parked at home in our carport, I use cut to fit photo mounting board that is held in place by the curtains. This mainly is to cut down on sun fading. Cutting down an old windshield sun screen isn't very elegant looking but should work. On the SMB forum, someone used similar silver insulation sold in rolls. If they sell it by the yard, it would be worth doing with better materials.
  19. No go on the rear and side door screens. If you have installed the CRLaurence louvered windows, the window handles will get in the way. $135 is too expensive to cut holes in. (If someone plans to buy 2 rear sets, let me know and I will buy the rear door screens from you.) The driver/passenger door window screens, if the sun is from the rear, will fit the rear door windows but will need something to hold them is place. So we are going to cut an old screen we have to fit the rear windows. What is left over can be used for passenger side door window or the poptop windows facing the sun. Trying to keep heat in when the poptop is up is a lost cause. We mainly wanted the front screens to cut down on heat building in the cab. These will do that...
  20. Interesting news that Infinity will be using the NVP 3500 chassis to build a luxury "truck/Van" to go head to head with Suburban. Another shift has been added at the Canton, Mississippi plant enabling the QV35 to utilize the Titan HD drivetrain. Both the new gas 5.6 V8, diesel and 4x4 will be available. A limited number, 2016, will be badged "National Parks Edition," to commemorate the 100th anniversary, 1916 to 2016. Unlike NVPs, all Infinity dealerships will be able to sell and service QV35 vans. 21. The window screens arrived today. No case, but that was not an issue for us. We have a place to stash them behind the driver's seat and counter cabinet. Keep in mind these mostly will be used when parked or camping for an extended period. Windshield screen has a narrow mirror cutout; otherwise it might be hard to get it in place. You stuff the relartively small portion of the top/side edges under the headliner and A pillars. Good fit and little light will get out or in. The side windows were a surprise. I expected them to be the size of the window, but they are the size of the door window frame. They supply Velcro to fasten them in 3 or more places to the door frame, but there is another way to hold them in place. If you shut the door most of the way and hold them in place, shut the door; they will stay in place. The fit is good. The negative is they will fall out when you open the door, but with a bin this isn't the way to normally get in and out when camping. We have some left over magnets from our side door project if it becomes annoying. We plan to use them all the time, at least for the windshield. The cabin area seems really open, unlike the curtain than snaps in place around the side windows and wind screen. If it is really hot and buggy, the skeeterbeaters will not work with the insulated side screens in place. Not sure about getting the side and rear door insulated screens ($135). If they made insulated screens for all the windows, this would be as easy choice. We may try Wollip's solution.
  22. Dented, let us know how the conversion works out. Curious about how long the wait time was, how long they keep your NV, the estimated and actual cost. Our travel plans/destinations have changed and we are more focused on the southwest, four corners area. 4x4 would either keep us out of trouble or get us in trouble.
  23. NPR had a spot this morning on the rebound of the RV industry over the past 7 years. No wonder it is crowded out there. Baby Boomers aren't to blame even though we increase by 10,000 every day. The average age of an RV owner is under 50. If you are towing, on a tight vacation schedule or hoping to stay in National Parks, you have to be resigned to making reservations. For those of us in self contained NVs, we have more options. Sites restricted to 25', no hook ups and no generators offer the best chance to find a site and avoid the $400,000 motor coaches, unless they will let us use their stackable washer- dryers...
  24. I put the video here because SMB exclusively did Quigley conversions. I got the impression when we picked up our 2x2 NV and via videos that the conversions were done at SMB west, rather than ship them to Quigley. I know next to nothing about 4x4 inner workings, so I have no idea if the new Fords are Quigley or not. It would have been more interesting if a 4x4 NV was in this video. Alan Feld didn't even acknowledge NVs can and have been converted by SMB west. Alan, the owner of SMB, is however very approachable about camper and 4x4 conversions.
