IMO..... Why the NV deserves the Cummins Diesel
Tatunka replied to andy_george's topic in Lounge - Nissan NV
If you guys look at your dash warning lights, there are already spots for DPF, Exhaust High Temp, and 4x4. So Nissan has already been thinking about this, I just hope it's sooner than later. -
From the information that I have gathered: The rear axle on the NV (13" AAM Nissan Specific Unit) is the same as the Titan XD (although with 6 lug instead of 8, so different axle shafts?). So the possibility is there that the Nissan factory locker will work, also there will be much more aftermarket interest in the Titan so the possibility that a locker will emerge for this axle is high. The front axle that Quigley and Advanced uses is a 9.25 IFS AAM axle is used by many different manufacturers and has the ability to have an LSD, eLocker, or LSD/eLocker. Also Advanced 4wd has a work around for the 4lo option, not sure what it is but they are not bound by what Nissan wants, like Quigley. And yes, turn your wheel and hit the skinny and you will spin. It's because the computer thinks are turning, therefore the sensors will let the tire spin more than if you have your steering wheel straight.

The Body Builders Guide also has a lot of information, it doesn't have the wiring diagram but enough information to be able to trace it back. Also don't forget, the NV is prewired for AUX lighting into the cab. The I would just splice into the harness, solder the connections, and cover with shrink wrap to weatherproof the wiring, but that just my opinion.

Owens also has a decent set of aluminum boards, black or sliver, that look nice and have so far stood up to the kids kicking the hell out of them. HQMAN check out aluminess website, they make a winch bumper and a rear bumper for the NV.

I forgot to mention, even though you have probly already bought something, is that Advanced 4wd in Utah does a 4 inch lift and a 4lo transfer case, no factory warrenty though. So that might be an option for you also.

Hopefully know that the Titan XD is out we will be able to find a locker for this thing. It looks like the Titan XD uses that same axle as the NV, but with different shafts. And it will have an available e-locker for the rear. One thing that I think Nissan/Quigley could work on is getting the 4wd programing for us guys that have 4wd NV's. Having front and rear electronic limited slips would rock, oh and also a 4lo program.

Hi Bama, welcome! You sure started a fight by saying hi! ;) Be sure to post pictures when/if you buy. "For those of you who don't regularly travel through "no service" areas, your iphone will not work at all. No maps, no phone." This is not true for non iphone users, I have a windows phone that has offline mapping capability using Here (Nokia) maps. Plus people still use iphones? :) I second the special order deal!

Thanks for the update! This peaked my intrest because I tow a lot and I have taller tires, so I'm not the easiest on the transmission. But so far the temps have never gone past half, even in 100 degree temps. But I'll have to keep an eye on my shifting now.

So what happened?

My one concern looking over the numbers is the payload and the towing. Say you are towing something that is 12000lbs, the tongue weight would be 1400lbs (12%) min, that means you only have 600lbs left over for cargo and passengers. So for me, that would be the trailer, the wife and I, the kids and nothing else. So yea, payload is a big deal. That's what chased me out of the 1/2 ton market, you could get a truck that was rated to pull a lot, but then you would have no available payload for cargo. It will be nice to see what the actual specs will be. Especially with them using the rear axle from the NV, six lugs instead of eight, but still a full floating, 13 incher.

As Bates was saying, I too am excited for the Diesel option hopefully migrating over to the NV. I wouldn't mind going through Quigley to get my 4x4 added again, but it would sure be nice to have 4x4 as a factory option. Especially if all the goodies come with it like: rear diff lock, hill assist, ELSD (I know the NV has it for the rear, but for the front axle also), etc. My question is if the NV's have the GVWR's, GAWR's, and strong frames to compete with the 3/4 and 1 ton van markets why then did Nissan choose to stop the Titan XD at the 2000? or 1500.5 level? Why not make it a full 3/4 ton?

With my trailer, my doors will open if I am straight. But will hit one side or the other if I am at a angle, even a small one, they will open slightly, but will hit the propane tanks. The tongue jack hasn't ever been a problem, it's the propane tanks.

New NV-P 3500 Owner in Boston, with Quigley 4x4 conversion
Tatunka replied to PonyJeff2k1's topic in Conversions
The running boards are the Owens black aluminum, they say that the running boards won't fit with the OEM mud guards, but if you chop off about 2-3 inches they will fit. The tires are BFG ATs, 275/75 R18 on 18 inch ION Wheels with 0 offset. -
Post a picture, mine you gotta really pull kinda hard.

Welcome to the very small club, I love my Quigley! I bought from the same place with a great experience also. -
Thanks for the reply, it’s always one of those thing I look at but just haven't committed it to yet. As far as the "heavily modified" comment, it must be a response that Nissan teaches its new service personnel. They used it on me and the 4x4 system from Quigly, even though it's fully warrantied by Nissan :-)

Hey Decades, Just wondering if you could give us an update on your experience with the supercharger and if you know if Stillen has made a kit for the NV with the changes your installer documented. Thanks

This might be a little late but I found this information in the body builders guide for the trailer fuses and their numerical location. Fuse # and color 4 Red 10A Battery Trailer tow (I am guessing this is the one that powers the 7 pin) 7 Red 10A Battery *1 Parking, license plate and tail lamps (trailer tow) 16 Red 10A Ignition, Start Sonar system, back-up lamp (trailer tow) 20 Red 10A Ignition, Start ABS control, stop lamp control (trailer tow) 21 Red 10A Ignition, Start Back-up lamp control (trailer tow), sonar system Relay # and Color 2 Blue 15A Battery Turn signal control (trailer tow) 5 Green 30A Battery Electric brake (trailer tow) 14 Green 30A Battery Charging system (trailer tow) 29 Blue — — Tail lamp relay (trailer tow) 30 Blue — — LH turn relay (trailer tow) 31 Brown — — Ignition relay (trailer tow) 32 Blue — — RH turn relay (trailer tow) I would start there, next step I guess would be to trace the wires. If you need it the body builders guide on page 151 (I think) has a diagram of the 7 pin layout.

I just want to know what axle this is, RAWR, spline count, ect. I know there are other members also looking for this info so I posted pictures help ID the axle. I have looked on AAM website but find no mention of this axle or the part number. I emailed AAM, but I have not heard back as of yet.

I have been intrested in the rear axle in the NV but there is no infomation that I can find. So I took pictures to help ID it so someone more knowledgeable than me can help. I know it is some type of AAM axle, just not sure which one or the capacities. View from the rear (14 bolts) Rear Cover part#? Axle Part#? Some Other Markings

This has some truth but you are forgeting about the Electronic Limited Slip (ELS) that our Traction Control system provides for us. If you don't think it exists take your van to the side of a road where the shoulder is gravel, stop with one wheel on pavement and the other on gravel, then hammer the skinny pedal to try and break loose the tires. Try it with Vehicle Stability off (it won't cut the fuel) and its better. So, yes the van does have an open diff front and rear. But at least you can spin three wheels instead of two. In my experience the VSC needs to be off to provide the highest level of traction. Also the AAM rear axle that is put under the NV is a NV specific part, I was hoping at least one other manufacturer would share it, but no. But the IFS 9.25 is shared by GM? or Dodge and AAM does make a E-locker, Limited Slip, and one with both. :) I wonder if this would work?

It depends on the tire that you are going to run. The wheel with the -6 will stick out about 46mm (about 1.8 inches) more than stock.

My sensors beep randomly a lot, nothing broken. I have had my winter cord in the way, put that behind the grille and that took 80% of the problem away. Otherwise it's just something that just happens, all the time in the rain, snow, and if dirty, but sometimes just randomly. I also noticed that the front sensors activate/sound when backing, and vice versa. The manual states that the front sensors are supposed to be off when backing and the backs off when going forward, this is not true on my truck.

^this. I see way too many people using winches not knowing the dangers of them.

An older man came out of the gas station and stared at the beast and said "Now that's one hell of a truck! Gawd Damn!" and started laughing and walked away.
