Give me some site feedback
radin2son replied to ASD Dad's topic in Nissan NV Forum, Feedback and Help
I knew that but you have some access to the 1 or 2 who can do the upgrades. Both are pretty basic; you would think it would be automatic. I haven’t noticed any other changes. -
Give me some site feedback

No 2019 link? Need to add 5.6 “old” and 5.6 “new” or whatever code Nissan uses to differentiate the 2 engines and transmissions. -
Welcome. Good choice. I’ve always preferred roof top carriers for bikes, but on nothing this tall. MPG will be less but you may notice your mpg gets better the closer you get to the Rockies. Head winds permitting... We’ve carried bikes on the back, but it is a pain opening up the rear doors but this may be a function of having a camper van. What you may encounter is lower octane. Just use whatever regular gas is available. Check out “States your van has visited” under Lounge-Off Topic. It has an interactive map that you and your family may like. Another is “Show us your NV...”

Bonzaion, post some progress photos when you get a chance. For a couple of years, I attended high school in Sept-Iles before my parents shipped me off to boarding school. They then moved to Montreal, a better deal for them, I think. Someday, I’d like to return in our NV. Good memories...

ABS has its place but not this way. If you aren’t a risk taker, will Nissan “Twitter” approve paying upfront for a tow to the other dealership? Your insurance? If it becomes a warranty/recall fix, they should cover this retroactively. Nissan did reimburse us for a sensor fix after the warranty expired that had been documented during the warranty period. If you do the diagnostics and find something wrong, will Nissan’s warranty kick in? I would check the warranty manual or contact Nissan “Twitter” if it is not clear. Maybe someone else on the forum knows. Good luck.

You eventually were able to brake? How? So far, you have done all you can with Nissan until they are able to replicate what happened. Not likely, unless they drive it like they own it. Keep this thought for later. If Nissan doesn’t consider this a problem, it could be costly for you to diagnose and replace part by part to get it fixed? Back to “owning it.” Do you really want to drive this? At some point, I would consider trading it in on a new NV. If it sits at the dealer where you bought it, go for a trade in value for an NV without this issue. After all, Nissan says 2 are not a problem. At least, they haven’t told you poor braking is normal. Filing a complaint with NHSTA helps. The only other NV brake issue was someone whose NV took too much road, in the opinion of the driver, to stop before colliding with another vehicle. The air bags didn’t deploy, which seemed to be the main concern.

My ‘62 Land Rover had the auxiliary tank under the passenger seat. You had to lift up the cushion to fill the tank. No seat belts either until I installed them. With the seat belts, I felt really “safe,” but the fumes bothered me. Youth! Outside Van added 110 gallon capacity to a NV. The original owner has old (2014) posts on Expedition Portal. Easier to google “Kodiak Nissan nv” to get to posts. Twin 55 gallon tanks were “shoehorned” under the van with a 3/16” skid plate. Rear airbags were added to handle the extra weight. 700 miles on a partial fill... if you read through his posts, the twin tanks were made by Jarred Bowen, PDX Tuning in Portland. Business closed/gone, but in 2014, they apparently were willing to sell 1 55 gallon tank to be installed where the original is.

The V6 should be fine based on your planed use. If you can find/afford a 2014, you may still have some warranty left. Other than that, very few meaningful changes between 2012-14. Check Wheels and Tires for info.

When you have time before or after delivery, can you take us through the process. Where did you buy your NV, cost of conversion, how long did it take, who you talked to etc. I hope you stick around (most don’t), post photos of your NV and trips and generally review your van. There is an interest...

Welcome. Did you go with 0-2-6” lift? This is a perfect truck for traveling around the west or wherever... There is another Flagstaff NV owner on this forum, but no recent posts.

Global platform lets Ford do this. There is a fwd version in Europe, while rwd is offered here. Combine the 2 and you get awd. Great Baja photos. Any interest in your NV? We sometimes see the Mexican made (global platform?) Nissan passenger van in Tucson. Looks very much like the Toyota ambulances you see on tv dealing with one of many tragic events.

2020 Transit will offer awd, additional engine options and crew cab seating... Nissan?

Potentially New NV 1500 Owner! I have some questions...
radin2son replied to Dan_P4X's topic in Welcome! Introduce Yourself!
Installing rear seats in a cargo van has been tossed around quite a bit, but only 2 known to have done it. One was a commercially installed single seat and the other was a diy Transit bench seat. If I recall correctly, the latter was diy because no commercial installer would take it on. Liability? NVP 2500 offers the most options at a good price. -

radin2son replied to Dan_P4X's topic in Welcome! Introduce Yourself!
If you go with the 1500, your engine choice is the V6 with no high roof available. MPG can be better but how much depends on the driver etc. Back seat options in cargo configurations are a problem. You may want to go with the passenger version as others have done. More expensive but you could still get the V6. No reported issues with the warranty. Some problems with anemic rear ac in the passenger NVs. The ac in cargo NVs is great in the cab but not in back. Recent report of an older blown V6 and a few other doomed engines probably due to poor maintenance. Problems have been few. It looks like you are near Denver, so finding a commercial dealer will not be hard. It can be a challenge if you use this to travel. Navigation system is car based and not particularly useful. Upgrades even less so. Your phone or tablet will do a better job. Good choice for a van... -
2012 NV 3500 from Southern California
radin2son replied to irv's topic in Welcome! Introduce Yourself!
Welcome and great choice and name. Did you happen to see Nissan’s video on converting a Leaf into a pickup that they used at the Phoenix area test facility. Recently, there was a one off project where they used recycled Leaf batteries for a pop up tent camper. -
You bought it with a blown engine? At least that way there was no surprise... As a former supervisor used to tell me after offering no guidance, “Let me know how it turns out.”
-
Welcome. You and Maggie will love your NV. There is something dogs love about a great view particularly if it is elevated.

Advanced’s web site and the rep at a Overland meetup say they offer 0-2” lift for NVs. How did you convince them to go with 6” lift without changing the front suspension etc? What was the cost difference from $11k+. -
Disable your DRL's

I don’t get this. Isn’t this for safety. I do get bulbs burning out prematurely... Are there no Safety Corridors with mandatory headlights on in areas other than the west? -
Welcome. There was a dog show a couple of weeks ago in Tucson. In the past, there have been several NV high roofs in the parking lot. Most converted for dog comfort. Post some photos as your conversion evolves and of your travels.

Check out wetokole.com. They make custom covers for the NV 200 and 1500+. You have to go to their gallery to confirm this. No idea what they cost.

Did anyone notice “Recon Campers Envy (NV 200) Camper van” at the Chicago Auto Show. Pop top version like the VWs. reconcampers.com Recon offers custom seat covers made by Wet Okole. It is not clear from WO’s web site if they make them for NV 1500 etc. wetokole.com More interesting is the report that NV 200 vans have “all but taken over in areas that relied on VW busses.” No wonder, NV 200s are made all over the world.
