It’s time to remove Jim Click Nissan, Tucson from the list. There have been enough screw ups, none serious, by their service department. The last straw was trying to set an appointment for an oil change. First, they wanted to know if I had purchased the life time service contract, next they wanted to know if I purchased our NV from them and finally the next available appointment was 0ctober 15. I assume in 2018. I told them no thanks. I will take it to my independent VW mechanic who will do the service. These qualifications are new, and I hope not the new standard for Nissan service. It will make it difficult to get service when traveling.

Cabin ac or rear ac? Maybe 2 different issues? Check rear ac posts. Also, is this at idle? I have had other vehicles do this. Counterintuitive that when stopped it does this when you need it most. That said we have had no problems with cabin ac. Cold all the time and adjusts with no problem. Do newer than 2012 NVs have the supper ac button on the temp setting? We have only used this occasionally. No matter how cold we have the ac, the V8 has never budged from midway on the temp gauge. This includes 117*. Can’t say what it does to mpg... It doesn’t seem to matter. One other thought, cargo vans do not have dual zone ac controls. Fool around with all the controls to see if it is better on one setting than another. The service tech will likely put a thermometer next to an outlet and tell you this is normal. Tell them you want the regional tech/rep to check it out before you take delivery. Has anyone taken their problem NV to an ac shop? You might get a different result.

Tim Lutz on Instagram has converted his hightop into a working office/camper. If I have the name wrong look under “travelogue.” There are several older posts here, somewhere... He also had a blog that he rarely updated but gave good build info. Found it Tim Lutz @vanlifetravelogue Vanlifetravelogue.com

C5drvr, Your request still baffles me. You want someone else to do this when you can do it yourself. To make this more helpful, put your location in your profile and maybe someone near you will oblige or let you crawl under their NV 3500. Or, refer you to a nearby commercial dealer. There are no commercial managers or service techs currently active on this forum, so once again you will have to make this connection on your own. If you have not posted this on Facebook, give it a try. Let us know how it turns out...

I get what you both say, but is a fully loaded NV or NVP realistically a good tow vehicle? How much can you safely tow? We are about 1000# under the max payload and I wouldn’t consider towing. I do like tow mode and use it on steep hills with manual mode. This past trip we spent a lot of time in 1st and 2nd on dirt roads. We had to stop on an uphill section where a tourist was digging fwd holes until he finally backed up to get a running start.

Still seeing too many small vehicles towing... This past trip, we came across a 90's Suburban, towing the largest Airsteam, that lost control on a paved, steep downhill in a canyon. The Suburban detached and was backwards into the cliff wall, while the Airstream was downhill across the road. Tow end was smashed in and it looked like it also hit the cliff wall. What is the best vehicle to tow? Horse power, torque? What is the max tow capability for NVs?

This type of request always baffles me. Is someone really going to crawl under their NV 3500 to measure this? Not knowing where C5drvr resides or if a commercial dealer is nearby, C5drvr may just have to do this crawl...

Simon & B, Have you posted other photos of your NV? ASD Dad, Nice photo. Hope you are faring well in SC. Same for other NV owners in SC and NC. -
Saw high roof NV near Gallup, NM and an white (?) NVP just west of Rangely, CO. Waved but not the official one. Wonder where they get it serviced.

EL MORRO NATIONAL MONUMENT, NM, WOODS LAKE, CO, DINOSAUR NATIONAL MONUMENT, UT, 9 MILE CANYON, UT, LA SAL MOUNTAINS, UT, VALLEY OF THE GODS, UT and GOOSENECKS STATE PARK, UT We made an unplanned, but expected return trip to disperse our dog's ashes at Woods Lake. Emotions aside, there had already been 2 dustings of snow and the low was 37. No rain or bugs. Since we were already 600 miles from home, we decided to drive the 300 miles to Dinosaur NM. There is no direct way to get there. Lots of 2 lane roads through some interesting areas, some beautiful, some bleak. Our NV picked up another souvenir, a cracked windshield. A large semi with hay came around a blind corner, forcing a toy hauler to put 2 wheels onto the dirt. Voila! Green River is the main campground on the Green River. Loop B can be reserved, while A and C are first come, first served. Very little difference between loops. Loop A has less shade. Strict gray water rules. 9 Mile Canyon, known for its petroglyphs, west of Vernal and south to Wellington, is well signed, and now paved, from the south. Coming from the north gave us problems as we missed a sign and ended up on some very rough dirt roads in natural gas country. There is BLM dispersed camping in the high desert before you get to the canyon. Much nicer here than in the south, San Rafael Swell area, this time of year. It was in the 90s and windy all around Moab, so we took the Castle Valley-La Sal Mountains loop (43 miles) to get out of the heat. Mason Draw campground (8240') has 5 sites, only one flat enough for an NV. We were the only ones there. MTB heaven. Valley of the Gods, near Bluff, UT is a narrow 2 way dirt road with many wash crossing and places where you can not see the road over the hood. Tourists drive their rental cars here, but don't tow here. BLM dispersed camping. Too hot to camp this time. We waited too long to go to Goose Necks SP. It was free dispersed camping with 1 pit toilet, maybe. Now it is $5 to enter and there are 2 vault toilets, ramadas and picnic tables. Camping is dispersed but will cost you... 1,000' down to the San Juan river. 1,935 mile trip, which put us over our 6 year goal of 72,000 miles.

Rahvin (Wheel of Time), you are back at it again. At least post visuals of your virtual van, so people can know you do not have an NV and no possibility of getting one until you emigrate to Canada. I suspect your posts are part of your fantasy world. I must admit I don’t understand the your character’s use of compulsion or what balefired by Rand means.

Looks like you already have one. Like the mileage on the Titan. Join in and keep the posts coming...

Any salvage places near you where you can check it before you buy? If not, $150 sounds good.
-
Is it the mirror or housing that is loose? There is an older post where they bought the lower mirror and snapped it back in place. Look for that post and you may find the source. Another post involved a loose housing. Outcome unknown. Replacing the entire mirror will cost you about $450 for the tow mirror. Contact a dealer.

coloradocampervan.com This is an alternative to the Sportsmobile poptop that in many respects is better. The top down look is very similar to the “leisure vans.” Base price is $10500 and takes 2 weeks to install on Fords, Chevys, Dodges and Sprinters. 4x4 conversion is available for Fords. They do make a custom top for NVs. Build time for custom is 6 weeks, but that may include camper conversion as well. Find the right used standard or high top NV and this could be an option.

For a 5 year old van that has had few model year changes, particularly the V6, that seems to be a good value vs cost. Now the tough part, which one do you pick...

aluminess.com Saw this topic in the SMB newsletter: “What do I tell my wife to convince her I need an Aluminess front bumper?” I looked up front and rear bumpers+. $2500 each for front and rear. Then you get to add all the accessories. Not sure I would ever need these but a way to carry a second spare would help. One potential problem may be not being able to open the rear doors all the way on the sides.

EuroCampers.com has started offering more NV accessories in addition to camping items. Worth a look. They have front door screens, similar to a pillow case that slides over the door frame/window. (Skeeter Beater uses magnets to hold the screens in place.) These were around in 2012 for Sprinters. The manufacturer had never seen an NV and wanted us to pay $150 for a template that he would keep. So, we bought Skeater Beaters. theskeeterbeater.com

Great post. I hope those previously posting ignition and/or key problems find this post and link. Not great that the affected model years have to wait until sometime next month to get a notice.

I think the assumption is most of us are just offering info and our own user views. It would be great if more manufacturers offered and posted products for NVs.

Our VW had a similar swing out table. Besides increasing useful counter space and eating, our then very young daughters used it to color on while sitting on the bench seat. We knew where to find them. The only negative was stowing it over storage bins that also contained the water tank. Pain to move it out of the way. Maybe just awkward... Our SMB came with a free standing table. The top is stashed under the rear seat; have to slide it into/out of a rack attached to the seat. In order to do this, you have to have the seat pulled up. The table “tube” leg comes in 2 pieces with a tiny tripod to be attached. Very unstable and too difficult to get to. Never used it after setting it up once. This the consensus of othe SMB owners... Interrupted twice. Anyway the points I was trying to make are: the design must be functional, multipurpose, even better, and easy to use or access. SMB failed miserably. VW was close...

NV SMB compared to Transit and ProMaster SMBs
radin2son replied to radin2son's topic in Lounge - Off Topic
Another campervan converter, this time on the east coast, Gaithersburg, MD. Adventure Journal has the article, or go to Off Grid Adventure Vans ogavans.com Ram ProMaster because they like fwd. Will convert Ford Transit and Sprinters. Doubt they ever heard of NVs. Interesting conversion that will add $30-35k to the price of the van. $30k for the base van. -
