Notice from Nissan on NAV update question...
radin2son replied to Randucci's topic in Audio & Navigation
I purchased the update in 2017 for our 2012 NV; the oem card was from 2011. They will send you a new nav card to plug in and that updates the system. 2 things to keep in mind: 1. The Nav system was was updated in 2014-15 and there are 2 cards, different parts numbers. The order format is clear about which one to order. 2. Most of the updates year to year have been places. We didn’t think this warranted a new card every time they sent a notice. You probably have a 2015 card (pop it out and it should have a date) so the road maps should be accurate. Others are using Sirius with real time updates. My 2017 VW has Apple car play which uses their updated maps and only works where there is service. (Same for iPhones.) Google maps are not available unless you opt to use Android. If you have one of these or plan to, I wouldn’t bother with updating the nav card for 5 years or so... -

Your use is just what Nissan Commercial intended. Even overloaded, mpg is within the reported range. How does your NV compare overall with other cargo vans you have used or owned?

Be sure to check the date of the initial and subsequent posts. Some may have been posted by members no longer following the forum. If you need specific information, you can try sending them a personal message (pm) that will get to them via email. You will get an email back if they want to respond but will have to use the forum to send info back and forth. It works well.

ROCK CROSSING CAMPGROUND, MOGOLLON RIM, AZ Last July/August, we stayed overnight here and nearby Blue Ridge campground on our trip to the mountains near Telluride, CO. We planed to return earlier but our trip was delayed by the Tinder Fire and closure of both campgrounds. Both reopened, but were day to day given extreme fire conditions "No fires, no charcoal and no shooting." On 5/23, the entire Coconino Forest closed until significant monsoon rain. We never really set up camp during the 5 days we were there. What came out of our NV went right back into our NV. This campground is at 7200' off route 87 between Payson and Winslow. A 3+ mile well maintained gravel road takes you to the campground with 33 sites. Anything a NV can tow will fit with the exception of site 35 (2 sites are double). Blue Ridge Reservoir is down a 2 mile road from the campground entrance and is very popular with Kayakers. Section 27 of the Arizona Trail (Mexico to Utah) goes by the campground. We were there to walk our elder dogs on the trail and to hike a portion by ourselves. There is water by the "vault" toilets, which I guess is more sophisticated sounding than pit toilets. Elk and deer will sometimes wander through the campground in the early morning and there are coyotes and black bear in the area. This is a heavy use campground, but there is dispersed camping from route 87 for 2+ miles on the road to Rock Crossing.

Thanks. I don’t think he ever posted here, but I came across “Lee’s Van Tour” on YouTube several years ago. He had plans to tow a mobile work shop so it isn’t surprising he took this route.

Interesting photos in albums posted by Gedigan Gear. Anyone have info?

NV SMB compared to Transit and ProMaster SMBs
radin2son replied to radin2son's topic in Lounge - Off Topic
The 2014 NV 2500 V6, standard top conversion sold. Asking price was just under $54k. This was a one off. Welcome to the new owner if they show up here. -
The more info you can provide, the more info you will get. REI blog has plans for a folding bed along the driver side with room for a bike, but does not give you room for a rear seat. Stand up height is less of a problem in the high top than the NV being too short in length for your needs. Check out Adventure Journal. There is a Chevy box truck conversion for a surfer. Have you considered a large crew cab with slide in?

If you don’t need the hightop, and want a rear seat, go with the NVP. Others have considered adding a rear seat to the cargo van. There are 2 versions: one was a custom single seat in a work van and the other was a bench seat taken from a Transit. If you cannot do this yourself, you will be hard pressed to find an installer. I would look for a used diy conversion or one of thirty built by Sportsmobile. There are 2 SMB floor plans, both with seats and seatbelts for 5 passengers. A used hightop conversion in SLC sold for $40k and standard top may still be on the market for $53k or so. It does not have a poptop. You are in the right area to find one as well as have Advanced do the 4x4 conversion.

Welcome. For whatever reason, Nissan has stuck with the original marketing plan; only commercial dealers can sell or service NVs.

This part looks nothing like the part involved in the 2012-13 recall (13V-395) for a metal selector plate lock clip that was installed incorrectly. All vehicles had to be checked. If I recall, the shift lever indicator looked like it was in park and it wasn’t or at least not completely. Simple check and fix with no replacement part needed. Ours was installed correctly. It’s possible Nissan replaced this part with plastic. I would check to see if there are any service bulletins or related recalls. More than likely it is a plastic cover plate... if longer screws hold it in place, you may not need to replace the part. What does Nissan service say this is?

Latest update. If there are changes in opinions regarding service at these dealerships, post the info. I have mixed feelings about Jim Click Nissan in Tucson. If I were traveling through Tucson and needed an oil change or minor service, I would go to them. Otherwise, go to Phoenix if traveling west. If traveling east, the closest dealerships are in Albuquerque or Roswell, NM. I’ll add them to the list of positive dealership experiences, if they are not already there. As you most likely have noticed, NV Commercial Dealerships are far apart and few in the west. Take the time to go online and look for them on your route. NV roadside assistance will tow you to the nearest one if needed.

Welcome. This is an easy request. Since you are a photographer, we look forward to your photos.

Must be a production line thing. Our 2012 has 2500 HD but no SV badge. Since the 30 Sportsmobile production run only included SVs, I never paid much attention. They did convert both V6 and V8. I used to wonder why there wasn’t a V8 badge similar to Titans...

Turbone is looking for the evap canister...

Welcome. Unless you have major conversion plans, the rei co-op blog folding bed conversion looks like a great way to go. Sportsmobile did a one off conversion of a standard top 1500 (V6) that you may want to check out. It is for sale, SMB west, for $54k. Price drop of $2k but still way too much. There are 2 interior photos.

Try driver’s side of the gas tank. There are Titan videos on line. Doubt Nisssn would be imaginative enough to come up with another placement on NVs. There also are videos on cleaning them. Just google cleaning evap canisters.

If using your phone, go to rei.com and you will find shop rei, rei garage etc. Scroll across to co-op journal. This not my van. The article provides a step by step build from scratch for any large van.

On our last trip on dusty gravel roads, the check engine light came on. OBD showed the code and cost ($0) to fix this apparent selfhealing sensor. I cleared the code thinking all was well. Not so; I also ran the quick emissions test and it failed even though the check engine light was off. I repeated this over time and continued to fail. On our last trip on pavement, it passed. The self-healing must be related to a set number of on/off ignition cycles... Could it be wind turbulence in the wheel well? I agree with Bamps. “STUPID place...”

I had to look up Pajero (US Montero?) The problem with hanging a spare tire on the rear door is weight and damage to the door if tapped by another vehicle. You still see these on older SUVs and aftermarket on older Ford and Chevy/GMC vans. It does avoid having to move it out of the way when opening the rear doors. Good luck with your migration and vanlife plans.

Emigrating or traveling to Canada definitely means you will have to winterize any van you buy. NVs are too short to waste space with a toilet and shower, so a bucket under a sink drain will suffice. The gray water tank on our NV is way too small to be of any use. Most likely it was required to meet Sportsmobile RV certification. If you want a full bath in your van, look at used extended Ford E-Series or Chevy/GMC vans. That extra 2’ or so will give you the room you need. Unless you need 2 spares, why bother. If you end up using ferries you may pay more for the extra length. You also have to swing away the spare every time you want access to the rear doors. That said, there are roads where 2 spares are recommended...

Assuming your intent is legit, you must already know NV 1500, 2500 and 3500 are built for the North American market. I suppose you could buy a used one and ship it. But, why? There must be other more suitable vans in the Philippines...the NV 200 for one. Very popular camper conversion in the UK. Had I been on the full site and noticed your location, I would not have bothered to respond.

Welcome twice. (Wish there was a way to delete these double posts.) We looked at a 2011 MB 2500 high roof Sportsmobile conversion. Aside from the $83k price, I was wary about maintenance cost. Didn’t even consider “repairs.” Diesel didn’t bother us as we had until recently a 2005 Passat tdi wagon. It only had 63,000 miles so it was never used to its potential. We have not regretted going with our NV.
