Over 3 years since this came up... Received notice of settlement of class action suit against Takata and Nissan. A match came up for our NV. May or may not be subject to recall. No way to know if we have a problem. Age and humidity are not a factor here, but I did see a map that puts AZ into the second most prone area. Heat probably... If you didn’t get this in the mail and are curious, go to www.autoairbagsettlement.com I received a similar notice regarding our 2017 VW. Not on the recall list. It’s possible that newer NVs are not on the list as well.

Looking to buy a V6 High Roof Cargo NV
radin2son replied to loulymang's topic in Buying, Leasing & Ordering
If you are lucky enough to find a 2012 NV hightop with a mere 200,000 miles in like new condition as one member did, you will pay $12,000. The post is under installing a ceiling fan. Photos attached to that post... He says his research shows NVs are built to last 800,000 miles. Whoever set that price must have thought no one would buy a high mileage vehicle. -
Mdsnyder 108, completely missed your 5/2/17 post. Went back and looked again at your Instagram photos. Impressive. Your 2012 NV with 200,000 miles is in incredible shape.

I checked it out. When traveling, why would you need a composting toilet? Also, why go with a toilet that needs to be vented? In a home, a water saver and the compost can be used as the video suggests. The best application seems to be tiny homes and cabins, particularly those without utilities. Doesn’t answer your question, however... As an aside, I like the collapsible toilet with bags made by Reliance or Reliant and others. Folds down to 5” x whatever the seat width is and can be set up anywhere. Since we pack out dog waste, this would not be that big a deal. Hunters must use these as they are out of stock.

Is this part of a permanent wet bath? If not, why not just go with a portable version that you can store anywhere and easily remove to empty. You avoid black water plumbing and/or venting. I get the compost concept, but where would you use this? Southeast of Tucson, they trucked in sewage from back east and dumped it on “idle,” I hope, agriculture land. Most of us, if not all, never got past the yuck factor. It stopped or went underground, so to speak...

Hi Group. Thanks for the add!
radin2son replied to Lakehouse's topic in Welcome! Introduce Yourself!
Lakehouse, weretherussos.com has a video of their tour of SMB West. This include a clip on the “penthouse,” aka poptop. Also, there is a NV SMB orientation video on YouTube and Vimeo. This will give you the best info for your conversion. Someone may have posted the link already under conversions. Same for the “Magic” video. The Magic video is worth looking at even for those not planning to convert their NV. -
NV SMB compared to Transit and ProMaster SMBs
radin2son replied to radin2son's topic in Lounge - Off Topic
Came across this blog weretherussos.com and their class B RAM Promaster. They went from “brick and sticks” to a class A RV towing a Jeep to a 20’ campervan. Good read for anyone considering a camper conversion. They live and work in this van full time, but are not professional runners, climbers etc. They did check out SMB but the wait time was 6 months to a year and a half. -
Good find. If you google van sales for October 2017, it doesn’t break it down. NV sales increase year to year. Wonder if there is a correlation with quality issues some have posted.

The good news is that this code can be ignored and you can drive on. We have since been on dusty, muddy roads and it hasn’t come back. Good reason to have an obd scanner that store and erase codes. Auto parts stores can only tell you what the code is, not delete it.

We had the same problem. Wait awhile (depends on start/stop engine cycle) and the check engine light will turn off. Cured? If you have remaining warranty, all of the above is covered. If you have a documented history of Nissan trying to fix this, you have a shot at appealing to Commercial customer service to cover your out of pocket $. It is not covered by the Nissan or federal emissions warranty, unless...you fail your state’s emissions test. You have to wait until the check engine light goes off (cured?) since they won’t do the test with it on. Federal standards imply it should then be covered for 80k? (Check the Manual.) You most likely will have to contact Commercial customer services to get it fixed for free. Not likely. None of this should be a problem for those with the 5 year/100k warranty.

Transmission Shiting issues Transmission Issues
radin2son replied to jmillet's topic in Nissan NV 3500 HD
Good to know Nissan Commercial will revoke a “CVD”. Wonder if existing dealerships are aware of this. All the more reason to complain, but also contact consumer affairs when as you put it a new dealership “goes the extra mile.” The list was found but needs updating. -
Found it.

Transmission Shiting issues Transmission Issues
radin2son replied to jmillet's topic in Nissan NV 3500 HD
True. We are in the same situation. It may be time to resurrect and update the list of dealerships that have offered good service. The problem is where is it... The only solution is to deal directly with the service manager. Some dealerships are upfront with email and phone numbers; others you have to dig a bit. Generally, they are receptive. -

Our 2012 NV 2500 “cargo” was converted by Sportsmobile West in Fresno. Nothing but sheet metal to cut through, although we wish there was an ac vent for the back when driving. You can contact SMB in Fresno to see if they will do it, but they no longer list NVs as vans they convert. Expect it to cost $10k+. If Fresno says no, try the other 2 SMB converters. Their site is www.sportsmobile.com Jon Nelson had another converter install a poptop on his high top van. Search his posts or try sending him a pm. There also may be another converter back east. SMB West has a used NVP without a poptop for sale ($53k+) with interior photos. The floor plan has the couch/bed on the driver side and cabinets etc on the other. Our floor plan is the same as our long gone ‘83 VW. The poptop can handle 100 pounds+ when up. So you may want to rethink the type of rack you would use. An electric top will add $$$$. We don’t have this and the top requires heavy lifting... One negative that we just accept from prior experience is just how noisy the poptop is, wind noise and the hardware rattles on rough road. Still can carry on a conversation... You will enjoy this van no matter how you convert it. Bamps has put his NV low top to good use. -
Transmission Shiting issues Transmission Issues
radin2son replied to jmillet's topic in Nissan NV 3500 HD
I know you have posted this several times. Thanks. If I owned a 2017 NVP (no issues with cargo?), I would go to the dealership with this in hand at the next service or problem and have them verify all have been fixed. If I were buying, I would do the same and not take delivery until fixes have been verified. As far as the service departments who were clueless, I would avoid them and contact customer affairs... -

Are any of you following up on this with Nissan Commercial Consumer Affairs? Dealers are giving mixed messages about how to fix this. Is there a service bulletin or not? Same for quality issues... -

Welcome. The name is not familiar; possibly a Facebook member. Curtains can be a challenge. Some of the new modular builders are using fitted panels to cover the windows. Also easy to remove. You can possibly make your own... Windshield and door shades are available from Eurocamper, or you can make your own with the same readily available material. -
A NVP hot rod...

Agree, thanks for the update. Now, you can get back to enjoying Clifford the big red road dog...

One last comment, although most know this is not usually the case. I assume finance sold the gold maintenance policy or this is what some dealerships sell as maintenance for life. When you pick up your NV say hi to finance and point out your issue with Lisa. They won’t sell many of these policies with her around. Similarly, ding her on the service satisfaction survey you are asked to fill out. Service managers do not like negative reviews. Point out positive service as well, naming Sam for one. This will help her. You did the right thing buying the converted NV through the dealership. They have to sort this out.

We have seen a few of these at various campgrounds, always on standard roof vans. If you mount it to the ladder rack mounts, you will need a ladder to get up there to fill it. You can then run the hose down the ladder, if it is permanently attached to your van. One person told us it worked better in his driveway (in the sun) and not so well at the campsite. We found solar shower bags to be hit and miss as well. If your ladder is on the rear door for hose access, you can clip a cheap tarp across from door to door to make a shower room. Make sure you do not clip on to glass if you have rear windows. There is a gap between the doors and van body; put your towel there if it is a concern.

If you’re going to use it at your B&B, the high top cargo gives you standup room but no seating or windows. Extra seating has been a real issue; see posts. Also a costly conversion. If it will only be your lower 48 cruiser, diy converters go with the high top. The NVP gives you windows. Rear seats can be removed. Several companies are going with removable modular cabinets etc. for other, usually smaller vans. The problem is standup room. A poptop will run $10,000+.
