Transmission Shiting issues Transmission Issues
radin2son replied to jmillet's topic in Nissan NV 3500 HD
Does it let you shift up the whole gear range? I only recently realized 5th gear was there as well since it goes to 4th when you push the button. If so it needs paddle shifters. It would be fun to go through all 7 gears manually. -
Welcome. Even if you didn't pick silver that ASD Dad and I are partial to, you have a great truck...van. Our NV looks a little dirty after 18 days in wet, muddy, then dry, dusty conditions. Inside is about the same...

Transmission Shiting issues Transmission Issues

I assume the 2017 engines have manual mode. Next time you try a steep driveway, put it manual mode, 1st or 2nd. I use this often but not as much as during our just completed camping trip to the mountains around Telluride, CO. No gear hunting or hesitation. I also like the power of the V8, even if it is the old version. -
Give me some site feedback
radin2son replied to ASD Dad's topic in Nissan NV Forum, Feedback and Help
Thanks for the work ASD Dad. Classifieds will only work well if posts include "sold." Should this topic only be open to NV owners? Will you be able to redirect posts to the correct topic? Most questions have already been asked and answered. This way the person will not be ignored or get shorted... New owners and/or researchers, keep the posts coming and ask questions in your initial or subsequent posts under your intro post. With the collective memories of ASD Dad and regulars we may be able to direct you. Maybe. -
This is an odd one. We pulled up for gas at Flying J in Winslow, AZ and there was white camperized (?) High Top NV also getting gas. After maneuvering around all the ride/left side fillers, I pulled into to the pump on the other side of his. I was just about to say hello when he got into his NV and left... Now, I usually notice other NVs and have never been this close to another owner not in a campground, but what happened? I was scruffy from day 17 of an 18 day camping trip, but had just showered and had on clean clothes. Did I need the official wave? No time. Met 2 NV campers, one in a NV SMB in the Tetons and the other a dyi near White Sands. Hello, if you read this.

3 possibilities: Best way to get maximum mpg at high speed, 80+ mph. Test mule for driverless NV. Using the tow coverage to get to the nearest commercial dealership. I-40 west of Gallup, NM

A new to camping Sprinter Pleasure Way owner did all his research and totally missed NVs. The PW dealer in Michigan told him 2 things: The Sprinter will sway at interstate speeds. Sure enough it sways at 62 mph. This is not wind related. I can't think of any NV high top owner that has ever mentioned this. Told him they drove rock solid even at 90 mph. The second was, you will know within 2 months if you will use the full bath installed in your conversion. He camps at campgrounds and has not used it. Reminds me of another new Sprinter owner who carried firewood in his. He and his wife also used campground facilities. To my knowledge no one has attempted this space taking item.

Rear doors won't unlock. Van must be complete garbage....

At what leaning weight will the door function? I can't wait for the trolls to activate on this... -
Hello From Cochrane Alberta
radin2son replied to SigScirocco's topic in Welcome! Introduce Yourself!
Welcome. Way back in 2011 or 12, rumor had it that Nissan put R&D into the NV frame for sole purpose of the new Titan. Apparently R&D did not include parts swap. Prepare for large crowds in Moab. This includes dispersed camping. Consider the San Rafael Swell near Capitol Reef NP and north of I-70 as an alternative or do both. -
Great use of the tow hooks...

Welcome. Post some photos of your beach buggy in action and next month from Wyoming.

Bamps, I rest my case... nice one! Easily met the one rule. ASD Dad (the reluctant photog?), Post a dash photo next "tow" trip showing rpm and speed.

Welcome. Great find! You have a twin, "New in Missouri". You can go back and delete the topic and content but not the post. So how about changing it to "Chose NVP over Transit" and tell readers why. Quite a few new owners have researched both and gone both ways, but few tell us why. Towing is one reason... As you and others can tell, most of us are not rabid NV or Nissan owners. We bought our NVs because they were the best van on the market for "our" needs etc. We leave it up to the reader to decide what van they want to buy.

NV SMB compared to Transit and ProMaster SMBs
radin2son replied to radin2son's topic in Lounge - Off Topic
Further price reduction on the above 2012 NV hightop. Now $39,995. That is getting very close to the price of a van and DIY conversion. The downside is it really only works for a family of 2. -
NVP 3500 SL (V8) travel trailer towing

Great exchange of info... -
Only the 2012 NVs display mpg. It always shows about 1 mpg better than paper and pencil. Maybe Nissan couldn't deal with the optimism... Almost since day 1, trip A, B and mpg will auto-delete when our van sits unused or more annoyingly the next morning after a hard day of driving. When I go to put the key in the ignition, I can hear a clicking before I insert the key. Static electricity? Anyway, it resets to zero. We are into the habit of writing everything down when we fill up and when we stop for the day. Never brought this up wit Nissan. Can of worms most likely even if it could be replicated at the dealership.

Great color... and you navigated the photo option!

Dealer couldn't help with some questions... can you?
radin2son replied to Demonseed's topic in Nissan NV 3500 HD
Until you decide how you plan to use a large van, you are wasting time ruminating. Buy the Ford. If you don't like it, move on to the next large van available. Buy the NV. -
Lowest campsite: Sunset Campground, Death Valley. 196' below sea level. This was more like a parking lot than a campground, but we were there for the super bloom. Stayed 1 night and headed for higher ground in the Panamint Mountains.

We had the optional service done at 30 and 60k by the dealer. At 60k, the drive belts were replaced, mobile 1 oil change, new cabin filter and brake system flush. Total cost was $772. The transmission service was $168. For whatever reason it was $171 at 30k.

www.trucktrend.com has a great video on testing the Titan and has a new feature, "Show us how you test your Titan..." NV owners (NV200 and NV1500+) can do the same on this forum: post photos of your NV at the worst construction site, highest pass driven when towing, highest campground (Hanagan Meadow in the White Mountains, AZ claims this distinction), most family members in your NVP etc. Bamps has a head start... Check out his gallery. I guess we need at least one rule. Your NV must be in the photo.

Ultimately, you will have to decide which is better for intended use. You are right about how easy it is to find Ford dealerships vs Nissan Commercial dealerships. I have yet to find a comparison review of current vans. Truck Trend did long term reviews of the NV 2500 and Sprinter cargo vans. They may have done one on the Transit. You may want to check Edmunds as well. Better yet, you may want to pm the new NVP owner, who went from a 2015 Transit to a 2017 NVP. -
Welcome. It is all about how you plan to or use a vehicle. Most of us feel our NVs are trucks. You will be very happy... Navigating this forum can be a challenge when new. Great info under towing etc.
