  1. I didn't use the cruise through the mountains of Tennessee, and I manually controlled the gear selector button. 4th was fine for most hills, I clicked into 3rd for a couple of the real big ones and for engine braking on the down side. Never did I fall below 60 mph unless I wanted to. I'm not sure acceleration would have been great, I was just happy to maintain through those portions of the trip. More power is ALWAYS welcome, but I'm at the age that dependability is nearly as important, and with the fuel mileage we get already, I'd hate to see what 20+more hp would do to this 5.6! :/ Hope you have a great trip! Jealous we aren't heading out on vacation ourselves!
  2. Dang, just out of curiosity, Rick, what kind of mileage did the Sprinter give you in those city conditions? High teens?
  3. As I've posted in other threads here, I have a Keystone Hornet trailer, 30ft, about 8,000lbs. I'm used to towing with modern diesel pickups and medium duty straight trucks. So of course the NV gasser is less torquey, but once I got used to it, I thought it seemed perfectly adequate for our trip from Michigan to Florida, through the mountains you mentioned I believe. Now just like you, my first 50 mile trip home from buying the camper I was worried. It seemed to be lacking, just like you say. But once we had a hundred miles under our belts heading south, I felt like it was doing a great job, and I never felt any different the whole trip or since then. Maybe there is an issue with your NV (probably not likely), maybe it'll just take a little more getting used to, or maybe your Tundra was a secret Toyota test vehicle with 800 ft.lbs. of torque:). Let us know if your impressions change after your trip maybe? Hopefully it does a good job for you..,,
  4. A catering van! Awesome! Looks like we found grub for our first NV rally;)
  5. Congrats! Welcome! I like the larger lettering of the top pic, but I prefer the way the rear vinyl follows the angle of the slider track. Nice, clean designs....!
  6. Will do. I'll let this crack spread for a while, until it gets into the drivers side. Hopefully that will buy me a year or so....
  7. Awesome.... Hope it works that well in practice. Sounds like you're a lot better at following wiring diagrams than I am....!
  8. Mine is still making the sound and very slight vibrations at 15,000 miles. Let me know what the clock spring is, and if it totally cures the problem. Thanks!
  9. I agree, Peter, best to proceed with caution:(. If the DRLs do end up causing an issue, I wonder if the solution would be as easy as pulling the DRL fuse to break the circuit? I've considered doing that since I got the van, as I'm not a huge fan of them anyhow.... Thanks for the heads up!
  10. That's what I had planned in my head..... Just tapping into the high beam wire, to use as a signal wire to switch a relay...
  11. Anyone replace a windshield yet? I'm gone for work, but my wife sent me a picture of our new 7" crack on the passneger side, right by the grab handle. Just a matter of time before it needs replacement.... Hopefully a few hundred bucks does it...?
  12. Very few here in rural central Michigan. I've maybe seen 2 other passenger models in the 8 months we've had ours. I kind of enjoy the exclusivity :)
  13. I've heard that step inside the sliding door "snap" more than a few times when I step on it. And I'm only about 175lbs.... Should be tougher than it seems to be. Makes me worry about premature cracks also...
  14. Just returned from the Smoky Mountain area to Michigan yesterday. I got 15.5 to 16.5 MPG's on the way back. Weather was beautiful, no wind, going 75+ mph. Usually I see about 14 MPG's, so I was very happy to see this!
  15. Love the smoky mountain area. I'm actually typing this from Gatlinburg, we are on the last night of our spring break trip:(. Rented a cabin.... Kids and Mom and Dad sure get sad when vacation is over! Heading back to Michigan tomorrow morning. As usual, the van worked awesome, no issues or complaints whatsoever.
  16. Same here.... That seam is completely un-noticed. Take a pic if possible.... Maybe the leather got stitched incorrectly or something....??
  17. Awesome, good for you! Leather is sure nice with kids, no doubt. Glad you got a good trade-in price..... That's surprising, but good to know the value isn't crashing after a year....
  18. I went with a 20" ProSeries light bar from superbrightleds.com. I've had it for over a month, just waiting on a free day to do the install. I'll be sure to post pics when I get finished!
  19. I have an led bar I'm going to put in the bumper hole. Like you said, I don't expect the throw to be fantastic, but for me it was a cheap and easy way to get more light...
  20. I put this wheel on my van, same make and extremely similar specs. No issues and look great....
  21. Dang, that's something I had considered doing before we got our van. I thought it may sound tin-canish compared to our previous Explorer conversion van. It is louder, but not enough to give me the ambition to pull off a project like that, though. But I'm very interested in your process and results, so please keep us posted on the progress and final product. Good luck! -Andy
  22. That's exactly how I understand it. Pretty standard for the tongue weight rating to be considerable higher with a wd hitch. Now go buy your toy!;)
  23. I have a "time delayed" controller, can be mounted in any position. Proportional brake controllers do need to be mounted closer to level.
