Tow report 2013 2500 NV v8 - Hi top
andy_george replied to rolliew's topic in Cargo, Hauling & Towing
Good write up. I agree on all points. It's no HD diesel truck, but for what it is, the NV seems to tow very well and be really stable with relatively heavy trailers. Glad you enjoyed it! -
That stinks. To myself vehicles are an emotion tugging point of pride, not just an appliance to get from A to B. And once they let you down, or twice, it's hard to get that trust and pride back, so I understand. PM me the specs and desired price for your van, I may know someone interested, if you really decide to sell.

Came here to post that vid, good work! I saw it on Jalopnik, and at first assumed it was me driving, and I had been taped on a mall security camera or something ;).
-
I'd never sell my van for the powertrain upgrade, but it surely makes it a more attractive option for potential buyers. But my tune may change when another NV smokes me from a stoplight becuase it's sporting the new motor and tranny;)

Your mileage just got worse, it's actually a 5.6l ;) See, what these vans may lack in fuel mileage is made up for by never having to open the hood for maintenance;)

New 2016 NV Passenger Owner

Many insurance companies classify the NV as "commercial", and I'm guessing that's your hangup. I had Ameriprise with our old van, and they wouldn't insure the NV. But I looked into Progressive, and not only would the insure the NV, but they did it cheaper than Ameriprise did with our GM Savana. Good choice, happy travels! We have 4 young girls, and they love our van! -
Pickuptrucks.com reports that the dino vans from General Motors are getting the baby Duramax's from the mid size Colorado and Canyon. Interesting, but in my opinion the output numbers just aren't there for a vehicle as big and heavy as a full size van that should be able to pull decent loads. May be enough to make the heads of Nissan US put the Cummins V8 in the NV or no??

Ever feel like you should have brochures to hand out?!

That's a really good idea! My parents have a Polaris Slingshot, and he deals with the same issue, only much worse. At gas stations Dad sometimes has to just wave and ignore people or he would literally never get back on the road! -
Dang, that's awesome looking. Adds some serious attitude to a big square box that can look quite generic without some flair thrown at it. Nice! Was it new or used?
-
What ASD Dad said is right on. We had sport bikes for years, and they were notorious for being 10-12mph off on the top end. Just normal....

Same here in Michigan, late Feb. just ain't AC weather. That's why I didn't run the test for you nv2500sl..... But last summer I never noticed what you are talking about...

That e-track should work fine. We've used lots of tracking for tie downs, and I actually prefer the L-track, but both have their pros and cons. Happy riding!

Really nice, looks factory!

These vans drive very nicely, I love the handling, steering, and braking compared to our old Savana. And like I've said here many times before, just drive the van and don't worry about mpg's.... Hopefully gas stays cheap for a while, and especially if that's the case, one major repair on a competing van and it wipes out all the mpg gains over the life of the vehicle. Nothing else out there comes close to the rock-solid reliability of the NV's. Stomp the throttle and enjoy the simplicity!

I agree with radin2son....!
-
Looks good! No reason that you won't love it as long as you want to!
-
Everyone has their own opinions, to each his own. I've lived in Michigan my whole life, where they spread salt like it's the only thing the DOT has to do all winter. And the cars with undercoating die at the same rate the non-undercoated ones do. I consider them to be a waste of money....
-
Good choice. I didn't want to weigh in too heavily, as I've never driven the V6 and the V8 fuel mileage is disappointing to many, but when I bought mine the V8 was all I ever considered....
-
Awesome. I did the same thing about a year ago. Makes me proud every time a door opens!
-
Just watched a video on it. Consider my mind completely blown. What an awesome idea!

Any tips for removing interior panel of sliding door?
andy_george replied to cwmacphail's topic in Interior
Just curious, why did you want to remove the panel? I keep thinkin of removing the panels, especially of the slider and rear doors, and sticking on some dynamat and stuffing some insulation in the empty cavities just to make things sound even more solid.... -
Wow, 10 grand seems like a big premium to bring the 5.6 in line with the tech that most gas motors have these days. I'd love the increase in performance, but if I were in the market for a new van I'd probably only be willing to spend a couple thousand dollars extra for the increased output. And on the flip side, the rock-solid, simple, proven performance of the current 5.6 does provide a lot of peace-of-mind....
