Topper Roof Rack - Galvanized steel (mini review)
andy_george replied to ASD Dad's topic in Cargo, Hauling & Towing
Looks good. That's an NV completely in its element! -
Bahaha. Funny how they design bumpers! They always make the stinkers hang to the very front or very rear! What an inconvenience! And worst of all, if they are actually (and unfortunately) used for their intended purpose, they protect MUCH more expensive things from getting damaged.... Like rear doors, grills, radiators, headlights/taillights, etc! I'd say if you want to make life much easier and less stressful, rip that rear bumper off today! And be sure to let us know when your rear doors get destroyed ;)

You're correct, there is no master switch to turn them all on. That's one of the more frequent complaints people have. It could be done by tapping into the wiring from the drivers door to a switch, but so far I'm not sure if anyone has bothered doing that...

Awesome! Glad to hear you're extremely happy! Keep us updated on your first impressions!

I'm not necessarily pro- or anti- ethanol, but I believe the theory is that if you run pure gasoline, your mileage should be a tick better. Generally the price is a tick higher, also. Most stuff around here is 10% ethanol, but there are some stations that advertise "ethanol free".

Nice!

Thanks for the info, and congrats on the new van and #5! Can't wait to hear your experiences with the new drivetrain, if it's in there. Enjoy! -
Very good points, ASD Dad. I assumed he meant while driving at speed, but there could be a million possibilities, like you say. Let's see if we can get to the bottom of this with a little more info!

My first guess when it come to vibrations is always wheel balance. Wheel weights can fall off, large rocks stuck in the tread can throw off the balance, etc. So I'd have the wheels pulled and balanced before I looked much further. My van has a slight vibration around 55mph with the winter wheels/tires on, but the vibration completely disappears when I put the summer set back on. Just a thought!

My brother has the W965's on his E-350. And I had a set on a Japanese Minitruck I owned back about 7 years ago (a Mitsubishi Minicab Van). They are a good snow tire, and the major plus is they are about the only snow tire with really high load ratings for keeping quite close to factory GVWR. When I needed snow tires, I decided to give up some load rating to get a more modern compound and tread pattern. I went with the Continental Extreme Winter Contact for light trucks. I just have to be sure to not pull heavy trailers, like our camper , during the winter months. I'd say my Continentals provide slightly better snow and ice traction since the W965's are a 10+ year old design, but that's hard to compare. And like erobertson said, the NV is a very large, heavy vehicle to control in ugly conditions no matter which snow tires you chose. I'd have no fear to try the Blizzaks if I were you, and maybe look at other, newer options if you're willing to give up some load rating. Good luck!

Awesome van. So satisfying to see a pretty generic box be made into something truly unique. Shows there are still people out there with pride in their rides! Good work! -
Dang, that sure does look easy..:..!

Aren't gravel roads dusty, to some degree? Yes. Good point. But not when I crawl down them at 5mph with my wife punching me in the arm to "hurry up!"

My wife's Grandmother passed away yesterday, at the amazing age of 99. I spent last evening working on the NV..... Changing the oil, washing it, and swapping out the winter wheels for the summer set, as the weather in Michigan has been pretty mild lately, and the road trip to and from Nebraska looks warm and dry also. Hate to rack that many unnecessary miles on soft snow tires. Rest in Peace Grandma:(. Heading to Nebraska for the funeral and services today. Be sure to wave if you see a silver NVP along I-80 today and tomorrow. Have a Good day, everyone!

2017 NV3500 going to crack the gas mileage barrier finally?
andy_george replied to breeze's topic in Nissan NV 3500 HD
Exactly. The NV is incredibly huge and heavy compared to most every other passenger vehicle for sale in America. Hoping and trying for good mileage is fine, but the reality is that every law of physics is working against you. I get much more satisfaction focusing on its all-around awesomeness than being upset we can't squeeze another couple mpg's out of every tankful. -
I'm totally guessing, but I'd say it acts as a vapor barrier.

Haha, nice! Yes, I hope all the good people on this forum have an amazing Holiday season, and a 2017 that leaves them blessed beyond their wildest dreams! Merry Christmas!

I use good filters (usually Mobil 1 or Napa Gold), Mobil 1 oil, and change at 6000 miles. The oil debate is classic, and I'm interested to hear what others change at. If these motors were more advanced (like the Ecoboost for instance, which I've heard deals with insanely high combustion temps in summer driving), and I drove in extreme or dusty conditions I'd change more often. But living in rural Michigan on 1/4mile of gravel road, for warmup time, has to be about the most cushy conditions for any motor or oil...!

Auto up/down windows would be nice....

Awesome, I'm excited to see all of the projects you have in store for us! Welcome! -
I agree completely. The competition is awesome, and improves the breed. It's just funny to watch guys spend 70 grand on a truck with enough power to pull a train and they hook it up to their pop-up camper :)
