Check Engine Light on.... bad O2 sensor
andy_george replied to andy_george's topic in Lounge - Nissan NV
I was also thinking 5/100,000 everything, but the guy at the dealer made a remark about powertrain warranty vs. chassis warranty, blah blah blah. Quite possibly he was misinformed or blowing smoke. I plan to look under the hood more tonight. It could possibly be corrosion related, but as picky as I am about avoiding salt as much as possible all winter, spraying the undercarriage down religiously, etc. my gut tells me it’s just a faulty, short lived sensor. Time will tell! -
Check engine light came on a few days ago (2014 NVP V8, 56,000miles) I stopped by Fox Nissan in Grand Rapids, MI today to have the code read. They wouldn’t hook it up without an appointment. Made me a little upset, but whatever.... So I had Autozone run it, immediately, free of charge. Bad O2 sensor on bank 1, sensor 2. I’m assuming this would be covered under the 5yr./100,000 mile powertrain, right? Or would they try to weasel out of it and call this something other than powertain, you think? If so I’ll just take it to our local mechanic. Thanks!

Too many people are given licenses that don’t possess the skills to drive, much less tow. And law enforcement rarely penalizes stupid, unsafe decisions unless it’s a commercial vehicle. And this is why I believe within 20 years it will literally be a fight to be able to operate a vehicle ourselves. Most of society is beating the door down to fully autonomous vehicles, and like always, the lowest common denominator dictates what the rest of us are forced to deal with.

EVENT POLL: How far would you travel for an event?
andy_george replied to Daydreamin520's topic in Events & Gatherings
Road America. Amazing track, and huge! Raced motorcycles there around 2006.... and got snowed on. It was awful! But a beautiful area! -
I’m with Rad all the way. We bought a new Honda CRV for the wife last fall. It’s loaded with every active and passive safety feature you could imagine, doing everything possible to keep its occupants safe in the event of the unthinkable. And it gets twice the gas mileage of the NV. But if that horrible event happened with us and our 4 kids inside, there is no way I’d EVER choose all that engineered safety over a big, square, heavy, van with a full truck frame and airbags galore. The exterior perimeters of the NV are much further from the passengers within. That gives me more peace of mind than anything else!

Dang, that looks nice....

Not that I know of, in any vehicle. But it is super handy to watch traffic, hitches, electrical plugs during really right maneuvers, etc. I wish every vehicle had the option to keep the cameras on...

Muffler or Exhaust Tip Options for NV 3500SL
andy_george replied to Idealer's topic in Accessories & Modifications
I put a 2.5” Flowmaster tip on a few years ago. Looks good and is holding up well, but as Idealer stated, I had to use a cut-off wheel to cut a slit in the stock exhaust pipe so the tip would slide on it. -

What have you done to your NV van lately?
andy_george replied to chphilo's topic in Lounge - Nissan NV
Swapped out the summer wheels for the winter set on Monday. Let the snow fly! -
Great info, Rad.

Gotcha. Good points. Let us know what you end up doing!

And of course I mean brackets that bolt to the frame, not welded....
-
Why doesn’t anyone who is a good welder/fabricator take running board mounts right to the frame? You’d think with some custom, thick brackets you’d have a more sturdy running board than could ever be achieved with a body mount, and corrosion issues wouldn’t exist. Does the boxed frame make that more difficult or something?

All great advice and info. The general consensus is what I wanted the say to the original post, but with zero off-road experience in the NV I don’t have real world experience. Just my own narrow mind:) Love this van, this forum, and the smart, helpful people on it.....

That is sharp looking!

What is the max the 3500 can haul?
andy_george replied to Pharomommy's topic in Cargo, Hauling & Towing
We have a 30', around 8,000 pound camper we pull a few times a year. Just a brake controller and weight-distribution hitch is all we use. The NV chassis handles the weight as well as our Super Duty Ford pickups in my opinion. Just be safe, don't enter any drag races, and you should have a good setup for the job. -
Towing setup for trailer GVWR 5500lbs
andy_george replied to DesertTed's topic in Cargo, Hauling & Towing
I'm always a little minimalist when it come to towing setups. I'd say at those weights, don't overthink it. 1) buy the correct drop draw bar. 2). Hook up. 3) enjoy camping! -
Haha, that's funny! When you go the sell the SMB you can tell the new owner you generally changed oil at like 2,000 miles, since that change took your average WAY down!:)

Transmission Shiting issues Transmission Issues
andy_george replied to jmillet's topic in Nissan NV 3500 HD
Wow, so sorry to hear about that. I'd be extremely upset if I was you. But I can't, for the life of me, imagine 2 new transmissions blowing at so few miles. I'd think a lightning strike would be more likely. Please keep us posted, and good luck. -
Powder coating is definetely the best option. Unfortunately this is a winter-only set of wheels I found for $100, so spending much, much more than that to make them prettier isn't something I was interested in. I used plasti dip with a glossifier. The winter rubber is mounted and ready, so when it snows we will be prepared! Thanks for the advice though! Before and after pics:

They sure don't have the jacked-up, pitched forward look of many of today's pickups. But I think the stance looks good enough....larger wheels and tires, (although unnecessary, expensive, and actually hindering towing capability) would make it look more modern. But I'm happy the NV follows the function-over-form principal. Our previous Savana conversion van always looked like the rear was lower than the front. Drove me crazy....
