  1. Yeah, I just cut out the plastic with a hand saw. The light is actually mounted to the black metal C-channel brace that runs behind the bumper, but in front of the radiator. And your correct, it took a right-angle drill to make the holes. Then I just ran a bolt through the lightbar mounts with lock washers. It's recessed a little more than ideal maybe, but it looks cleaner and throws enough light for me.
  2. I really like it. They really wouldn't make much sense if your drive in urban areas most of the time, you'd never be able to run it. But out in a rural area like we live, with lots of deer around, having so much light for so little power usage and low price is such a luxury.... :)
  3. A couple pics... Just high beams first. Second pic is high beams with lightbar on.
  4. I also swapped out the H11 driving light bulbs in the bumper for LED direct replacements. They still don't throw much light, just like the halogens, but they consume 1/10th the power and look much better with the white/bluish light... $20 each at superbrightleds.com
  5. I wanted to do something two-toned similar to that, but the wife won that battle:/
  6. Our passenger van through Progressive is around $800 a year, $1000 deductible, in Michigan, which is generally a higher rate state. Hope that helps!
  7. Thanks for the compliments. I'll try getting some nighttime shots ASAP..... The camera on this old phone seemed really unhappy with the intense white light and dark surroundings on some photos last night, but I'll see if I can get some to work out. I know I'm far from the first one to install a light bar on this forum, but I must say, the super intense, white light makes the headlights look like yellow candles when viewing the van from the front. It's a 20", 100watt, combo beam light from superbrightleds.com. It was $220 when I ordered in December 2014....
  8. After 2 years and 35,000 miles, I finally got the lightbar installed this weekend. Amazing the amount of light these things throw!
  9. That's awesome. I'd kill to be half the driver Randy is! Isn't it incredible that a high roof cargo van can safely do a beautiful drift in the right hands...?!
  10. Awesome, fine move, you'll be happy with it! Congrats!
  11. Exactly where my brake controller sits. Works great for me....

    Thanks

    Hahaha! Nice thread....!
  13. Dang, KMG is making Edgar one heck of a courteous offer. How come I never find sellers like that!? Hat tip!
  14. Nice van! The dark colors reflect so nicely being such big, flat side panels! Congrats!
  15. Long pole for doing the roof, is that what you mean?
  16. Exactly the same here.... We were in the process of building a new house and our old van was needing replacement. 9' doors guaranteed that any NV we decided on would slide right in!
  17. Good luck getting to the bottom of this, and please keep us posted. If I was buying a used van and noticed a knocking sound I would probably walk, having no idea what the previous owner may know but not be telling. If it was my van and I planned to keep it, I'd be willing to bet that if you wear ear plugs it will run another 200,000 miles ;) Now I'm not saying you shouldn't check into the issue, but phantom sounds are often much more annoying than actual mechanical issues. I'll be interested in how this gets resolved. Good luck!
  18. The updated V8 has a sizeable amount more power and torque, so if that page Mahu posted is right, I'm scratching my head.....
  19. 7 speed tranny coming for '17? Dang, that almost certainly means the updated 5.6l is going in. Oh man that makes me jealous.....
  20. I agree, that's not horrible mileage at all. People often forget that the NVs are not light, not aerodynamically slippery, not loaded with new tech features to save drops of fuel, and not usually driven like a slow Sunday cruiser....
  21. Once again, it's the case of the lowest-common-denominator..... Those who don't have the brains or skills to control a vehicle under certain circumstances make it so those of us who do have the skills- still can't. This engineering is rampant in the auto industry (and I'd admit, it's not ALL bad) and looks like it will only get worse over time....
  22. Interesting, thanks for the info. I'll have to pay attention to see if I notice the limiter.... Love the KLR. It's no powerhouse, but it's light, dependable as gravity, comfortable enough, and cheap to find parts for since it was essentially unchanged for like 18 years or something. Unfortunately, about 2 miles from home on a gravel road, last fall, I had a deer jump out right in front of me. I got all busted up, but healed well. Progressive insurance totaled the bike, but my brother bought it from me, fixed up up with eBay parts, and it's going strong to this day!
