  1. Mine is always the rear door not closing 100% at the bottom of the drivers side. Might need to adjust the bottom catch. I like the honk as it assures me the van is locked. My sprinter flashes the lights when properly locked. Rick.
  2. But the question still is why such a big swing between some getting great mileage and some terrible mileage? I'm using my sprinter more and more as the mileage is better than 2x the NV. Both city and highway and is carrying more weight. Rick.
  3. Don't know why such a large spread between good mileage and terrible mileage. My fillup yesterday is right on par with my 16 months of ownership. 153.8 miles /23.56 gallons= 6.53 mpg. And that's without towing anything. The van has a total of 6974 miles. That equates to over 1000. Gallons of fuel. With fuel being $2.76 per gallon yesterday. Yes, I carry weight being a contractor, but others are getting double the mileage while towing an 8500# trailer. Nv 3500 5.6 v8 high top. Dealer claims there's nothing wrong. Rick.

The factory is all but useless. 400 watts when the van is not in motion and 150 while driving. Most cordless tool chargers draw more than 150 watts. I installed a 2000 watt invertor in my sprinter years ago and its been able to run tools. The sprinter also had the dual battery option. Charges the secondary battery with all the protection and isolation. Rick.
  5. This is the second time it died. What did they discover the first time it died? That's what I would be looking at. Rick
  6. Working on my taxes and now that I have all my gas receipts in order, I am about 7mpg. 1 time I actually broke 200 miles in a tank of gas and that was when it was empty. Now I tell people what the 5.7 engine actually stands for. It's 5.7 mpg. Fortunatly I only drive 6000 miles a year. Rick
  7. 100 watts max. when driving and 400 when parked. pretty weak system. i installed a true 2000 watt system in my sprinter which came factory with a second battery just for that purpose. Rick.
  8. I have about 9 months ago. Rear door requires some weather stripping cutting. Side door nothing special. Installed pretty simple and fine tuned the alignment on the rear. Side was basic as it doesn't have a mating half. The lock spinners can be a little drag as dirt or moisture can make alignment with the keyway a little slow. Overall a real nice design without having to drill holes in the doors. Rick.
  9. I was at a customers house the other day and the dog groomer had a 2500 high top with v8. she only works for the company, but she told me that she is always filling up and gets about 7-8 mpg. not sure how much water she carries, but we both work in the same part of town and drive in the same manner. How is it that some people get 3 to 4 times better mileage and others are in the 11 to 12 range while towing a 7-8000# trailer whiles some of us are getting creamed with the highest prices for fuel and the worst mileage in the nation. Believe me, i don't race around town. Rick.
  10. Weight fees cost me about $350.00 a year, based on a 15000# gcvwr. Since I tow a trailer once a week, I had to bump it to 15000# as the ticket for under declaring your weight was $900.00 x 4 for the penalty plus court cost. Santa Monica loves to give these tickets, along with Beverly Hills and Culver City. They have a truck dedicated to commercial enforcement. Rick.
  11. Not even 200 miles. Have never hit 200 miles on a 25 gallon plus fillup. The majority of my driving is city. With minimal highway. After rereading thIs 60 post thread over this last year, I'm unofficially the biggest looser. Others are happy while others are are not so happy getting 11 mpg. I'm in the 6-7 mpg range and the best the dealer has done was change the oil, wash the van and lower the air pressure in the front tires. A total waste of my time. They claim nothing is wrong when they hook it up to the computer. They drove it a couple hundred feet around the lot to the wash bay making them the experts. We pay the highest in the nation for fuel and I get the lowest on the forum for mpg. So I am the biggest looser. My 7 year old sprinter gets 2 to 3 times better mileage, carries more cargo and has a heavier payload. Other than being a big tax write off, this van has been a big dissapointment between the mileage, technology and cargo volume. Still under 1 year old and 5000 miles and its ready to be mothballed. Dealer and Nissan are both a waste of time. Rick.
  12. Had this happening too. Turned out the locking actuator had too much strain against it and needed to be loosened up so as not to contact anything in the stroke cycle. Took me time to figure it out. Anything rubbing on the door panel when the door is closed? Rick.
  13. Don't feel too bad, my 3500 is getting under 200 miles a tank, approx 6.7mpg. I too was told and shown 15 mpg by my salesman. Of course that was before I bought it. Rick.
  14. My sprinter has a factory 220 amp alternator with the contractor package and second accessory/ inverter battery. Why a second alternator and not just a larger primary alternater? Unless you mess with the voltage regulator to up the voltage and elimate the trickle down charge. Rick.
  15. On my 2014 I wrote up the same complaints about the nav tech features. Total waste of money as its pretty useless for my work. Yes the bluetooth sounds like a tin can and my customers complain we have a bad connection. There is a simple workaround with the map and phone being used at the same time. Turn your phone onto speakerphone, that will trick the nav and allow you to see the maps while on the phone. Or use google maps on your phone and you can navigate from the phone while on bluetooth with the van. Rick.
  16. Looked up the specs on a 2015 nv 1500 with v6. I know yours is a 2012, might be the same, might differ in the early model. Factory specs show 2000# with a bumper hitch and 7000# with a tow receiver. Your owners manual will have your exact specs. Rick.
  17. Actual driving i have yet to average 8 mpg. i've never hit 200 miles on a 25 gallon fill up. more like 7mpg on average. that also includes some hwy too. but even late night with no traffic, the best ive seen the scangauge average was 12 and most of that was a down hill stretch late late with no traffic and no trailer. if it can't get 12 going downhill with no traffic and you guys are getting 15+ with a trailer, there has to be an issue with something. Rick
  18. You guys are getting better than 2x the mpg im getting. Still trying to hit 200 miles with 25 gallon fillups. dont know if its the weight, traffic, fresh motor under 4,000 miles or I got a lemon on everything in the van. How does a dealer test or compare mpg when I bring it in? Is there a minimum number that they feel is an issue? If weight is not a factor, then what is it? Do I need to drive in the middle of the night when there's not a car on the road and see how it compares? Do I need to let the engine get more miles and see if the mpg goes up? Do I need to enmpty out everything in the van and see if the weight is a factor. Our fuel prices are about the highest in the country and at under 8mpg, it cost me 50-60 cents a mile just in fuel. Rick.
  19. Not sure if a front receiver is commercially built for the nv as its a very small market for that application on that van. But I'm sure the person that fabricated the rear triple hitch can easily remove the tow hooks and utilize the front mounts. It should help balance out the load. But between your 4' rear overhang and front overhang, good luck with sloped driveways. I have a trailer I can no loger get up some driveways, that my sprinter was able too. Can you put a drop down side / hinges on your rear carrier to allow the doors to open. Rick.
  20. I'm not sure where in California you're located, but I can tell you over the last 7 years, my average miles per hour is 12.5 mph. Los Angeles came in 2nd, behind D,C for the worst traffic congestion in America. 4 of the top 5 were in Calif. Rick.
  21. The 12.83 volts I assume is the voltage after the load bank test. I also assume you only had a 3 year warranty on the 2012 NV. For kicks, try disconnecting the alternator wire harness if its easily accomplished. Are there any fuseable links that would help to isolate a general area thats easily accessible? Yours doesn't have a power inverter that might not be shutting off? Rick.
  22. .5 amps/ 6 watts is nothing for a good battery. How old is the battery? Could be a bad alternator with a bad set of diodes. That will cause a drain too. Not sure what the normal drain should be, but the battery sounds like it's weak. 12 amp hours over 24 hours should still start with a good battery. Rick.
  23. I think its worth it. Please tell us how simple or involved it's to install. Double sided tape? Rick.
  24. Pretty much my suggestion with the multiple receivers. But keep in mind the overhang of the basket with driveways and also something most people don't realize is the weight and distance overhanging with no support/ wheels. 800# tounge weight is one thing, but overhanging 4' from the hitch now makes that 800# turn into 3200 foot pounds. Makes a hugh difference especially when you hit a bump, dip or pot holes. The triple receiver is a great idea, I was shooting for a double. Might make It easier to align, but you could easily make the basket modular and pin the cross bars to the hitch extensions. Gives you more play and less weight to lift into place. Rick.
  25. See if you can pair another phone. Maybe your andriod or apple did an update and messed with the settings. But if its anything like mine, its the head unit being old technology. Rick
