  1. Another camper van article on Adventure Journal. Check out 4 Wheels, 40 Square Feet... That was their VW. Now they are in a 4x4 Chevy Express, formerly Comcast. The new UT owners cut out the roof and added a top made of wood. Sort of a "woody." They go through some of the pros and cons of a camperized van.

    Tire Update

Good to know since reviews are not NV specific...
  3. The above 2012 NV SMB in SLC has been reduced $500 to $47,450.
  4. I agree. Auto parts stores have quite a few bulb options that are worth trying. Since we do very little night time driving, we haven't made the switch. When one fails we will.
  5. It isn't a recall or TSB... extended warranty notification regarding the vapor vent tube. Hard to fill gas tank is a symptom of a clogged tube. No one on the forum has complained about this, so it is good Nissan is being proactive. Unless, it is a long standing Nissan wide problem... Periodically, I have noticed the pump nozzle "set latch" will constantly trip, even if I manually hold it, but attributed it to the nozzle, heat or dropping down from altitude to flatlands and refueling. I always wondered if something in the closed system compresses until the gas cap was removed. Bamps, did you get one for your Frontier?
  6. Given the reliability of NVs, most reported issues could be covered out of pocket if the 5 yr/100k warranty didn't exist. In our case that is what we will do. High mileage users may benefit from extended coverage, but will they keep their NV beyond 100k. It is hard not to look at new vehicles at that point...
  7. A good read with maps, data and photos is How to Read the American West, a Field Guide by William Myckoff. University of Washington Press. Wyckoff is a professor of geography st Montana State University. Basically it is a compilation of many road trips that looks at and defines what you see out the windshield. History, cultures, geology...
  8. Nice gas price. We paid paid $2.79 in a small town in Utah on our trip. How strange that the most we put in the tank was 23.021 (373 mi), last year. The most this year was 19.089 (278). The manual isn't very informative about when the low fuel warning comes on and states "there will be a small reserve in the tank when the fuel gauge needle reaches E." My guess is that the warning icomes on at 1/8th tank (3+ gallons or 45 miles) and E leaves about 2 gallons or 30 miles. Wouldn't count on this.
  9. Great trip route. Have you had the low fuel warning come on?
  10. I mentioned we have used the REI Screen House on several trips. It generally received bad reviews that we didn't see as issues. Adventure Journal also did a review that agrees with our experience. This 10'x10' room has multiple uses. Since our dogs don't know how to work zippers and haven't figured out they can crawl out (no floor) under the sides, it is a great off leash place for them to hang out. So far it is ranger and camp host approved. Before you think that is a very pricey dog house, it is big enough for adults to flee bugs or for families to keep wander prone children where you can find them. This was taken at the Fruita campground, Capitol Reef NP. We shared our sites huge paved parking area with a couple from Canada. Sorta looks like socal beach camping...
  11. Adventure Journal is a great read. Use the link on the first post. Check out the article on Wayfarer Vans, a $5000 conversion kit, unfortunately only for Ram Promaster City and soon for the Promaster 1500. Great idea that lets you install the box units using existing bolt holes. Looks like they could just as easily be removed as needed. Not sure about removing the trim pieces but looks possible. There is a link to their site and videos in the article.
  12. Keep up the good work. It keeps us appreciative of new ideas... One thing SMB did was to cover up/box most of the step considering most entry is via the grab handle. It increases floor space and adds a spot for storage. In our case, dog leashes. Another SMB uses it to store bottled water; easy access when standing outside the van.
  13. Nothing you do surprises us. Never would have thought of a moveable sink. Over a mattress? Must be the salt air... Will you use the cabinet space underneath for your gray water?
  14. Post some photos. We were in that area 2 years ago but had little local info on a trip to and from D.C.
  15. Liked the video and the recipes. Always looking for nutritious meals to talk traveling.
  16. Don't know. Others have listed usef for sale but not if they sold or not. It can't hurt to ask. Good to hear you got lots of miles on Michelines.
  17. nihil_perditi posted the direct link to the Magic video. For those new to the forum this is a fun video to watch... I never used the link to the article until last night. Also some good info. The conversion started with the V6 2500. I've just started looking at Adventure Journal. So far, good stuff.
  18. So far I like the Michelin Defenders, stock size for the 2500. Quiet on asphalt, great on dirt roads, mostly dry. Pick up quite a few stones, so you get to listen to them hitting the underside after you get back on pavement. If they decrease mpg, it isn't noticeable. The Transforce tires do wear well. Over 62k on them with plenty of tread left. Arizona however was not kind to the sidewalls; cracking and not worth trying to get more miles. Can you get the dealer to switch out the oem tires when you pick up your van?
  19. You are in the land of off road fabricators. If you make one, you might find yourself making them for other NV owners. You may want to check the Expedition Portal forum (I think I got that right) to see if any NV owners have posted this. 4x4 NV owners tend to migrate there, never to return.
  20. Well done. Interesting way to set up a solar shower. How many gallons does it hold?
  21. Welcome. Post some photos of HH. "Red" NV?
  22. Welcome. Awhile ago, Truck Trend did a long term review of the Armada and NV 2500 cargo. MPG wasn't all that different. Not only do you get a whole lot more room, you should get better mpg.
  23. That should have been a ? after low profile. This isn't something we could do with our van, but it would be a great cargo option if Nissan would run some ducts to the rear to at least circulate the air. Cool air? Anyone know if the ac is "commercial" or is it similar to other units in the Nissan fleet?
  24. Forgot to mention you can preview your post with photos. Another way to deal with sideway pics is to delete them, crop them and repost. They should come up the right way. No matter, as we get the idea...
