JanaJuggles Posted February 20, 2018 (edited) Hello everyone. I'm Jana and I bought a 2017 Nissan NV 3500 high top brand new a month ago. Using it to safely transport our rescue dogs and family circus show (Circus Stella, named after the dog!) We already have a problem. The sliding door won't open. We have no idea what happened. It was working fine, and now it's just not. It feels like it's locked, even though we're sure it's unlocked. It won't budge. Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions of what to do? We have the manufacturer's warranty to fall back on (hopefully) but we added some sound deadener and insulation. That sort of thing won't void the warranty, will it? The van was SO LOUD in the back, we added some "rattletrap" to lessen the noise. That was simple and easy and has been on for weeks with no problems. I cannot imagine it has anything to do with the broken door. This is such a bummer. I've never had a new car before, and stuff like this is exactly what I was hoping to avoid by buying new. Bamps Posted February 20, 2018 Congrats on your purchase. I would make sure none of the rattletrap is interferring with the door mechanism first, if not take it in to the dealer to be fixed. 1 radin2son reacted to this
andy_george Posted February 20, 2018 Don’t be worried about the NV being one headache after another.... most everyone seems extremely happy with the lack of issues on these vans. After a wash job our slider sometimes freezes shut, but I doubt that’s your issue. If you’ve had the inside panel off to add insulation (which I’ve also done to our slider) I’d remove it again and just look around. I’m sure it’s something very simple. Please let us know what you figure out! 4 ASD Dad, radin2son, Bamps and 1 other reacted to this
Mark Rogers Posted February 20, 2018 Does the sliding door work if you open it from the outside, but not from the inside? Our kids have accidentally turned on the door's child lock on a couple of occasions. It took us a while to figure it out the first time it happened. 2 radin2son and ASD Dad reacted to this
ASD Dad Posted February 20, 2018 What Mark suggested was the first thing that I thought of - the child lock. If that is off then agree with everyone else as well, take off the panel and poke around to make nothing is jammed or disconnected. 2 radin2son and Mark Rogers reacted to this
mahu Posted February 20, 2018 The mechanism can be a little bit tricky sometimes. What really helps is to push the door all the way to the front of the van from the inside and then try to reengage the opening mechanism from the inside. Also locking and unlocking it remotely with the key may help as well. our door didn't want to open three or four times in the last 2 1/2 years. With a bit of pressing and pushing we always got it to open after a few minutes. 2 radin2son and ASD Dad reacted to this
radin2son Posted February 20, 2018 (edited) If you are close to Charlotte, take it to Scott Clark Nissan (commercial dealer). Chris hasn’t posted in a long time, so he may have moved on as commercial and fleet manager. They worked on our van during a trip east. He is very familiar with how we use these vans. Just checked their web site. Chris is still there, most likely as busy as ever... JanaJuggles Posted February 25, 2018 (edited) Thank you everyone. We continue to have the problem with the door, though we've probably figured out the problem. We removed the door panel to view the mechanism. When you try to open the door, you can see all the little parts of the complicated mechanism working up until this last little cable that looks like it should move, but isn't moving. If you pull on that cable, the door will open. What we don't know is why that's not happening on its own, like it should. After manually pulling the cable, the door works for a while, then gets stuck shut again. Won't open from the inside or outside, acts like it's locked though it isn't (not the child's lock either and no rattletrap or insulation installed anywhere neat the mechanism, so not that). Go in, pull the cable, door works. This isn't a realistic solution as the door panel will eventually need to be put back on the door and we won't have access to the malfunctioning mechanism. I think we'll end up taking it to a dealer. We found a youtube video of a guy with a problem with this door, though his conclusion was different. I don't think I can post a link, but this is the title of the video, should be easy to search for on youtube: The Nissan NV Sliding Door Fix We went ahead and did that, but it doesn't seem to make a difference for us. Fixed it for him though. Apparently this door can have several different issues. I'll try to attach a photo of the cable that doesn't seem to be functioning properly. ASD Dad Posted February 26, 2018 (edited) Definitely take it to a dealer. That is what warranties are for, to fix things on new vehicles! That issue is absolutely not "normal" and something is out of adjustment or hung-up. The good news is you can pinpoint to the dealer the exact cause of the issue so they dont have to mess with it too long and then claim they cant figure it out! I would take a video on your phone of it not working and/or working if possible to show them when you take it in. That always helps.
