Topper Roof Rack - Galvanized steel (mini review)
ASD Dad replied to ASD Dad's topic in Cargo, Hauling & Towing
UPDATE: Topper agrees that is a factory defect in the bracket and there was nothing I could have done to prevent that. They sent out a new bracket, hardware and the special wrench to install it via UPS overnight! I will have it tomorrow afternoon. That is pretty awesome customer service. -
Topper Roof Rack - Galvanized steel (mini review)
ASD Dad replied to ASD Dad's topic in Cargo, Hauling & Towing
Wanted to update this review. I have owned the rack since April 2016 and on my last camping trip one of the support brackets snapped clean off! It is right where the weld bead was run so I think it was a defect in the metal. The bracket actually looks like cast steel which is weird. I am out of warranty but Topper is looking into my situation since it was pretty obvious I didnt use it for commercial use and barely had weight up there. I sent photos with my boat carriers still mounted. I bought the rack at American Van and they told me I can get the brackets for $50 plus $20 shipping for a set of two and extra hardware. It is basically the heavy duty mount that adds two brackets to up the capacity to 750#. I dont feel I should pay $70 for a defect so am waiting on Topper. If they deny help I will probably weld the bracket back together or reinforce it with extra steel. There is no way it should have broken with so little weight up there. I'll update the thread when I hear back and what I end up doing. -
Thanks for the detailed post!

Welcome to the site! Congrats on the van purchase. That's really low miles for a 2012!

Welcome to the site! Converting to a camper? Offroad toy to haul more toys? -
I still love those wheel snowmen you posted last year. Bummer you're grounded right now! We're heading out Christmas morning for a week camping in FL.

I really liked KO2's on my Tundra but went with the Hankook AT-M this time around. Your KO2's may break in and feel less squirmy for you after more driving. I honestly cant remember what my KO's felt like but I HATED my Hankooks when brand new and almost took them back. They felt like I was driving on really under inflated or greasy tires. They broke in after a thousand miles or so and have been fine since other than a large increase in noise. I am down to the first wear bars and they got much noisier. I have about 25K miles or so on them with a lot of towing. There's still a lot of tread left but they have these intermediate bars that start bridging lug gaps that are now all exposed.

It should be 130A. Stock replacements are 130A. Several companies make high output models up to 270A!

Welcome to the site. There are many threads on here about wheels and tires and most are for off-road / looks like off-road. You should be able to easily find the style and sizes you want. Also check our gallery for photos.

I think a couple have them on their NV's but I had them on my previous Tundra. Excellent tire and a favorite of the off road crowd. My Tundra saw just light snow at best so I cant tell you about snow traction but they were very good in sand and mud.

Thanks for the link. Where did you buy yours? Looks like a cool mounting system. Found it at good old Eurocampers - http://www.eurocampers.com/2012--2017-Nissan-NV-High-Roof-Prime-Design-Aluminum-Rear-Ladder--No-Drilling_p_1898.html

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006B7YDK4/ Bought that exact one and a 4" Dia coupler at Lowes. Without a coupler or some other lengthening mod none will fit, the engine bay is wider than the Titan.

RAD, this is OT but have you had your brake rotors checked for warpage? High speed shimmy when applying brakes is almost always a warped rotor. They dont need to be out much to cause an issue.

Looks great! Hope you like them long term. Thanks for posting photos.

Are you looking for the drop in filter or cold air intake? I have the AEM Dry drop in. I had an Airaid cold air intake. I have a review with photo on this site if you want the intake - http://nissannvforum.com/topic/772-airaid-mxp-intake-review/ If you want a drop in, the 5.6 Titan/Armada filter drops in.

Not on mine and we have the same year and similar mileage. Any way to post a link to that video? To me it sounds like something is loose or has gone bad on the side where the tire flat spotted. Something like a tie rod end or bad bearing maybe. If it gets bound up and tight if it were something like a bad rod end then it would act normal. You hit a bump or it works loose then you get the weird vibration and that wheel/tire will wobble causing the flat spot. When you turn, hit the brakes or load up that wheel it can bind itself again and you are OK until the next time. I think the problem caused the tire issue not the other way around. Please post a follow up on the issue and good luck. Intermittent problems are always the hardest to fix.

Those are great photos! Thanks for sharing. For some reason I dont take nearly as many photos on trips these days. I used to carry around my DSLR or at least a nice P&S camera with me but now I just dont care as much. I still take cell phone photos but that's about it.

Cylinder 3 plug looks terrible! I can see why it was misfiring. 1 doesnt look that great either from what I can see. If you are positive the smoke is not coolant (coolant isnt dropping and it is not sweet smelling) and not puffy like normal water vapor burning off, then it has to be oil. That would normally mean one of two things (or both). Plus you mention it is burning oil. 1) Your valve guide seals are worn and oil is seeping past once you park 2) Oil is slipping past the piston rings For both you will only see it on startup, once the engine is hot enough the oil will still be leaking but be burning off faster and cleaner so you wont notice the smoke until things cool down. Since you seem to know what you are doing, do a leak down test and that will help answer if it is the seals. Compression tests can be too quick for an accurate look at the seals, you need to know if they are still holding well.

The only one I know of is from Aluminess and you need their rack or need to modify your existing rack and/or their ladder to fit. It mounts on the side and bolts to the pinch weld seam under the body and to their rack on top.

NV 3500 Passenger Seats For Sale
ASD Dad replied to Jisenberg74's topic in Accessories and Parts For Sale
Moved to proper forum. -
Not sure if prices are higher up in AK but that is way overpriced for a 4x4 conversion in the lower 48 unless it has a lot of other mods done to it. The NV doesnt get discounted much and used hold their value. I have personally not seen any info on the 2018 either so I am assuming nothing will change from the 2017.

Forgot to post on this thread. Added Luverne Grip Step running boards. Review is on the site.

Where in SC are you? I am up outside of Greenville (Greer). When we built our new home this summer I made sure my van would fit even with the roof rack and kayak holders mounted! First time in almost 10 years I can fit in a garage (my old Tundra and Tacoma didnt fit either).
