Thanks Wollip and KMG for the quick replies and your suggestions. The Heng's mini vent would be the size I had in mind. I also found a 6 inch circular fan from Ventline which I am considering. I'd install one in the front over the kitchen for venting old air out and one in the back to bring new air in. Reversing the connection when installing will allow for reversing blade rotation. Capacity is rated at 100cfm and it'll keep dry while in operation in anything except really bad sideways rain according to reviews on youtube. https://www.etrailer.com/Enclosed-Trailer-Parts/Ventline/VP-543SP.html

Do roof vents only come in the standard 14x14 inches size or has anyone found 8x8 or 10x10 fans for roof mounting?

Sweet! Glad you are liking it!

Thank you very much for that very detailed description and all the suggestions! Yes, it's quite deep indeed. Can't even recall when it happened though we hear quite a few rocks hitting us. Hah, you say it's not hard...but I barely passed art class back in high school in Germany so we'll see if I dare do it myself or bring it to the shop. How much do you think a body shop would charge? We only have $100 deductible on the comprehensive coverage so anything above that would be covered I suppose. And I think after this is fixed I'll get some kind of protective coating to avoid these kind of chips in the future.

I gave our van a good scrub the other day to get all the salt and dirt off following recent snow and ice around Lake Tahoe. Discovered a small "ding" on the front side of the hood where a rock must have hit us. Probably the size of a pea. The paint is gone all the way to the bare metal. Recommendations on how to fix it? Has anyone tried to repair paint chips themselves using a paint pen or Dr. Color Chip? Or best to let the professionals do it? Price?

Interesting. THe only reason ours did take 16 weeks was because of the blue color no longer being available for the 2015 so we got pushed into the 2016 cycle. Why don't you reach out to Christ_CommercialManager. He can probably tell you what's going on and if there is a delay in production. Maybe they are prioritizing Titan's at the moment? Not sure if that makes sense or if they share a production line in Canton.

Hmm, unless you want it in a fancy color I don't think it should take that long. We ordered a 2015 NV High roof SL v6 with the side and rear glass and technology package in June. In September we found out that there was no more color run in blue for the 2015 model so we were put in line for a 2016 model. We took delivery on October 23rd, so it took around 7 weeks from the time they placed the order on the 2016 on September 3rd. Is this for NVP or cargo? No idea bout NVP, but for the cargo version I don't see why it'd take 4-5 months, if we were able to get a fairly unusual model in terms of color and options in around 7 weeks.

Question about reliability of NV3500
mahu replied to Joey Bailey's topic in Welcome! Introduce Yourself!
Can't speak to NVP, but from our buying experience of a new 2016 NV2500 high roof the difference between a used 2013 with ~40,000 miles and a brand new was minimal. If I recall correctly the used one the dealer tried to sell us on was around 27k while we got the new one for 32.5k out the door, so it was a no brainer going for the new one. -
200 miles on a fill up? how are you driving that thing? Our V6 High Roof easily gets 360 miles out of a tank.
-
Oh that was fully loaded to the brim with about 1200 lbs of household items + two people.
-
V6 High Roof. Got an 18.7MPG average on 3200 miles from Virginia to California. Doing mostly 65 with long stretches of 72/73 in TX, NM and AZ.

Just got back from the DMV and after lots of back and forth and arguing they were finally willing to register us as a Motorhome and not as a commercial vehicle. The big point of contention was the fact that we don't have seats in the back, which according to DMV automatically makes us a commercial vehicle and we would have had to pay weight fees. After explaining to them what we are planning on doing building it out as a camper van the DMV lady softened a bit and said "I'll have to ask my boss"...by the time we went back inside after looking at the NV her stance had softened further and she shredded the form she had filled out and started anew mumbling quietly "It'll be a motorhome then." And that was that. Got lucky there. Not sure how much difference in terms of registration fee (and vehicular sales tax since we didn't pay that back in VA) would have made, but I am glad it all worked out. So, anyone else registering in CA, just throw a fake bench with seats in the back or hope for a nice DMV person...;-)

Yes, the edges are pretty rough. Upon closer inspection it does look like it's paint that dried very unevenly, since I am able to break pieces and flakes of it off with a bit force. Maybe something to bring up during our first oil change/service which is coming up. Not sure how willing a dealership different from where we bought it is to look into it and fix it.

Thanks guys for the feedback! Appreciate it! Will brainstorm a bit more on this. You both make very good points! Wollip what kind of roof mounted AC unit did you get and how is it powered? Thanks!

Has anyone tried inline duct fans running on 12V to distribute air rather than a large roof fan? The idea would be to have two round 4 inch air inlets on each side of the van and use the inline duct fans to suck in air and use ducts to distribute air to a few spots such as the kitchen and the bed area. Vents in the wall panelling would be used to and could be selectively opened or closed. One option: http://www.cabelas.com/product/Attwood-Turbo-In-line-Blower/737470.uts?productVariantId=1184776&srccode=cii_17588969&cpncode=42-107206711-2&WT.tsrc=CSE&WT.mc_id=GoogleProductAds&WT.z_mc_id1=02243741&rid=20 Pros: - Better fresh air distribution throughout the van with half a dozen or so vents - No need to cut 12x12 inch hole in roof - No big MaxiFan cover on the roof Cons: - Requires some duct work in between insulation and careful pre-planning where vents are located. - Potential concerns about condensation along ducts (?) Any thoughts?

Is there a known issue with the sliding door not opening reliably? Every 10th time or so the door won't open. Basically when pulling the exterior door handle or pressing the interior button to open it there is no resistance in the door handle and it doesn't "grip" anything. It takes many locking and unlocking cycles with the remote key to rectify. Sometimes takes 10 or 15 tries before the mechanism works again. Even when the sliding door opens there is a lot less grip on the door handle compared to the two regular doors. Basically there is very little reistance and one has to pull the door handle all the way before anything happens, sometimes even pull two or three times before the mechanism opens the door. Is this a known issue?

Apparently folks like to steal temporary license plates in Albuquerque...Watch out when staying at the Candlewood Suites off I40. Luckily no damage and they were only able to grab the back plates before security scared them away. We still have the front plates and police was kind enough to switch them to the back for us so we are good driving in NM and AZ, where you only need plates in the back. For CA we'll put a printed copy on the front. And just to make sure we don't get pulled over when the tags are run by police, APB will hold off putting them into NCIC as stolen until we get to CA and can register the car to get our permanent plates. Time to get out of NM and hit the Grand Canyon!

I seem to remember that in some Nissan NV brochure I read that the SL/Technology package comes with rear AND front sensors? In our 2016 SL we only have the rear sensors. Not that we really need the front sensors, I am just wondering if I am totally misremembering about the front sensors, or if those were a feature on previous models or are a passenger van option only. Also, I think a few weeks ago there was a discussion about the rear sensor going off at random times and making beeping sounds. The 2016 NV has an off-switch for the sonar. So I am wondering if that is a new feature that Nissan added?

First long distance drive today with the new NV2500 V6 HR from DC to Christiansburg, VA. A total of 264 miles, some of it in DC in city traffic running errands before freeway between 50-70mph, and a 30min traffic jam at 15-20mph. The NV loaded to the brim with approximately 1,500lbs of household goods. We averaged 17.9MPG, which I am very happy about. We did drive very conservatively, lots of coasting and not gunning it up the hills. Have an Automatic plugged into the OBD port to record fuel consumption and other stats. The Automatic stats match what I recorded at the pump. We left DC with a full tank and added just over 10 gallons after 192 miles.

NV3500 HD, Rattle Trap, Reflectix, Ford Transit bench seats
mahu replied to Expressline99's topic in Interior
Yes, any pointers on how to remove the liner above the cab are greatly appreciated. Also, any concerns about the side curtain airbag? Or better to just stay away from that area all together? Thanks for any tips!- 15 replies

Yes, indeed! If the NV came in an extended version we would have definitely opted for that. Getting an extra 20-30 inches would be fantastic. It'd probably be around $5k more (based on what Mercedes and Ford charge for extended versions) and it would be totally worth it.
