  1. So far so good. Hasn't acted up again.
  2. I guess if you need a new shortblock under warranty, a dealer makes sense. Otherwise, what, exactly, is the motivation to let a dealer touch your van? This has always been a mystery to me. OK, not always, just since the early 80's when I realized they consistently do sub standard work.
  3. There's an always on power point in the console, and a 400 watt inverter is less than $30. Don't overthink this.
  4. I had been having issues with my rear view camera. The display on the nav unit would darken and or flicker on a regular basis. I googled the issue and all I could find were folks with frayed wiring. So, after rebooting the nav unit a few times to no avail, I pulled the inner cover off the driver's rear door and unplugged/plugged in the camera harness a few times, hoping the issue was in that connection and I might clean it up that way. Seems to have worked. It's been a few weeks and the issue has not returned.
  5. The fuse locations are usually on the access door.

  7. Try disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it. Often a component doesn't "boot" properly and power cycling it fixes the issue.
  8. See if it still happens with the traction control turned off.
  9. Any muffler shop will have the tools and materials to stretch a piece of muffler pipe to fit if they don't have the exact size lying around.
  10. It isn't complicated. You take it to a (different) dealer who has a vehicle you want, and trade it in. They aren't going to do much of an inspection, and you are not in any way obligated to disclose.
  11. Since the DRLs are dimmer (to my eyes) maybe not enough voltage to fire the HIDs? Put a meter on it.
  12. I would have gone for a 1500 if they offered it with the V8.
  13. I could see getting a Transit for a camper (not that I'd sleep in my van unless I was knee walking drunk). No need for daily driver reliability and not going to put you out of work when it inevitably breaks down. That said, they are great to drive, have more usable space to set up a floor plan, and have a lot more available options in the cab. Plus, when you break down in the wilderness, you can burn all the recall notices to keep warm.
  14. No need for balance. Where does flat repair come in? TPMS is required by law and every vehicle I'm aware of has the same style of disposable stem sensors. Ford (and others?) used to strap them to the inside of the rim with a steel band. That was messed up.
  15. Amazon sells a Kentool bead breaker for about $50. You could do the job without taking the rims off the truck. A real man would just go at it with a $10 non-metallic carpet stair tool though. ?
  16. Had to replace all four on my transit. Didn't need to do more than break the bead on one side and push the bead past the sensor. They tend to be angled to flush up against the rim in the drop center.
  17. The only thing I have for comparison is the Transit. They also have sensors that can't be repaired if a battery dies. I think that's universally true.
  18. Used? Aftermarket? If it's a camper, park it. If you make your living with it, screw warranty coverage, that's a false economy.
