Shortest period between oil changes. Took my NV in for an “Jim Click Nissan” oil change. I had registered on line, first time, and clicked on the synthetic option. Brought it on in for oil change this morning and non-synthetic oil change done. NV backed out of bay and back in for second, correct oil change. No charge for their mistake... What did I learn? Don’t assume online registration will get what you want. Verbally tell the service advisor you want synthetic oil etc.

Transmission Shiting issues Transmission Issues
radin2son replied to jmillet's topic in Nissan NV 3500 HD
Hope the service bulletin info helps but still go through the process of going from the top down. 2 serious problems of this type in 4800 miles. Do this by email, paper trail, even if you speak to them by phone or in person. It may be redundant but... your email can say “Thanks for speaking with me. To clarify/summarize our discussion, I understand (fill in what ever they said). If you agree or disagree, tell them. If that person doesn’t respond back, send an angry email to the top again. The owner or general manager will most likely say “____ take care of this” via a cc to you. If they do fix it to your satisfaction and they ask what they can do to make this right beyond that, go for it... -
Transmission Shiting issues Transmission Issues
radin2son replied to jmillet's topic in Nissan NV 3500 HD
A refurbished “new” transmission? Surely Nissan can do better than this, particularly since they have replaced NVPs for far less serious issues. Interim rides have also been provided. Go to posts regarding mysterious beeps from front sonar and a dealer car wash incident. Does Michigan have a lemon law? If so, get the process going if the Nissan Commercial rep doesn’t offer a replacement van. Really push back on this. Complain to the dealership owner, general manager, sales manager and service manager and let them know you intend to file a complaint with Nissan Commercial if you aren’t completely satisfied. -

Picking up 2012 Nissan NV High Roof this month
radin2son replied to timsbeast's topic in Welcome! Introduce Yourself!
A rare red NV... I think his name is Tim Lutz on instagram: he also has a blog, travelogue, but this isn’t updated regularly. I haven’t looked at either in a very long time. He has one of the best full time office/camper conversions for 1 person. 2 would stretch it’s limits. Info is posted somewhere under conversions but it would probably be easier to do your own search. Problems with these vans are few. Recalls fewer. 2012 NVs had a few minor recalls that should have been taken care of by the previous owner, but you can check this on the NV web site. -
Forgot to mention that jade is a big reason to come to Plaskett Creek. This past weekend was supposed to be the jade festival but it was cancelled due to the road closures. Last year it was cancelled due to fires. You can find pieces jade along the cliff walls at sand dollar beach, but you mostly find serpentine (if metal scratches this lookalike stone it is serpentine. This is what locals say). Divers are looking for jade boulders. The 5th photo is jade cove. Very difficult to get down there. We never found the trail. This topic never went the way I hoped, other NV owners sharing travel info. Not that it matters, but I changed it to reflect what it is...

Currently shopping Nissan NV and trailer BH
radin2son replied to prohafamilyof7's topic in Cargo, Hauling & Towing
What a great adventure ahead of you. This is an amazing truck that will not let you down. If you are concerned about reported issues with the new V8, look for a used 2015-6. You will still have part of the 5 year, 100k warranty. -
Van locking itself
radin2son replied to fretlessking's topic in Alarms, Keyless Entry, Locks & Remote Start
Probably not your situation, but standard. When you lock, but do not open the door, it will relock. I’’ve had this happen in multiple vehicles including our NV. Possibly your situation. The auto-key is very sensitive and does not take much pressure to lock when in your pocket. You appear to have found the long ago post for this problem, so this is not exclusive to 2017 models. -
BIG SUR, CA There seems to be a correlation between not posting and traveling, or we seem to travel in "no service areas." We have had our NV Sportsmobile for 5 years and decided to take an anniversary trip. Although we had no plans to return to Big Sur, we ended up doing just that. Coincidently, it has been almost 50 years since we drove our '67 VW Beetle and camped in a much too large canvas tent with "sleepover" bags and some sort of stove. We must have had cooler as well. We camped at Kirk Creek many times, '80s through early '90s in our 83 VW, last of the air cooled, camper. Big Sur became much too crowded... Also, teenage daughters were less interested in camping to put it mildly. Still crowded, but less so due Highway 1 being closed at both ends, landslide to the south and washed out bridge to the north. This meant having to cross the coastal mountains via the 24.2 mile Nacimiento-Fergusson Rd. (Google this to see the 3 minute video from 4/17 and read the write-up on Dangerous Roads.) It takes over an hour to drive this. No problem for NVs; put it in manual mode 3. The problem was close calls with other vehicles taking up too much road and driving too fast around the many blind corners. (Locals said they have never seen so many convertibles, as in rentals.) 2 serious accidents while we there. This road will be used less by tourists as the north section should open this Friday. Big Sur is wild and unkept. Trails along the bluffs and down to the beaches are only as wide as the number of people using them. Watch out for poison oak; it's everywhere. Kirk Creek CG is on a bluff on the ocean. No water, pit toilet and lots of sun. We stayed at Plaskett Creek CG which is on the other side of Highway 1. It has water and regular bathrooms. Easy walk to Sand Dollar Beach. Surfing, kayaking, diving, fishing and swimming, if you dare. Water is too cold for me. Our trip included Joshua Tree, last site out of 99, Big Sur, reservation required, Carrizo Plain National Monument and dispersed camping outside of the "campgrounds full" Joshua Tree NP.

Saw a red (1st time, great looking) NVP towing a very fast looking boat west of Tehachapi, CA on 10/1. Saw many commercial vans including one that looked like a cutaway box version or it could have been an optical “wrap” illusion. Still find it hard to believe people still ask “What is that?”

NV SMB compared to Transit and ProMaster SMBs

2014 NV 1500 (V6) SMB conversion for sale, $54k. 17250 miles. Not sure about the owner’s thoughts on this. Tow vehicle to be used for exploring around base camps? More info available from Sportsmobile West. -
Wouldn’t it be great if mpg increased... What is the name of the dealer. For those who live in the area or are traveling through, sounds like a good service department to use.

Our experience has been that interstate mph has little if any impact on mpg over the course of a tankful. If you look at real time mpg, it would show variation I’m sure. I have no explanation for this, but some of the worst interstate mpg has been in the south. Was it higher humidity, thicker air? In the west between 4000-7000’ feet we have hit 16-17 mpg per tankful. Generally it is 15-16 mpg unless terrain and Mother Nature deem otherwise. Head winds in the west are potent. Average over the course of 5 years is 15+ mpg. What rpm does your tachometer show? Some one here posted 3500 rpm. Hope they were passing a semi on a very steep hill with a blind curve. I don’t have a lead foot and it usually falls in the 2200 range. Long ago, I heard that the optimal rpm was 2500 to cut down on gear hunting.

I agree with ASD Dad. You can drop in without an appointment, get an inspection and be on your way... We have had very good and quick service at NV commercial dealerships when traveling. Make sure you go to a commercial dealership as they are the only ones who will fix it, quick or otherwise.

Since you most likely will be driving interstates next summer, you and your wife will definitely notice the absence of traffic between western cities. Your NV will love the 75-85 mph speed limits and you will be surprised with your mpg. Interstate speed does not seem to affect mpg all that much with these old V8s. Since you aren’t towing you will see fewer gas stations...

Did you look at the one for sale under classifieds? It may or may not be available or in your price range. There also are owners who have used both. You can pm them to try and get more info. If you find one on a dealer’s lot, no matter where, it would be worth flying to get it or have it delivered.

Welcome. How do you plan to use your NVP? Just out of curiosity, What was the difference between what you paid for a 2015 vs 2017. Do NVs hold their value?

You will miss your NV and look at all the states you can color in. Throw in sleeping bags, tent, stove and you can camp if the opportunity arises...

Maybe... On 9/27, we will have had our NV for 5 years. Head start on most. Photos below: Picked up our camperized NV at Sportsmobile West, Fresno CA. First campsite, paved parking lot at the tent only camp site at the south entrance of Lassen Volcanic National Park. Spent most of our time reading manuals and answering questions about NVs. This has been an amazing vehicle.

Motor Trend’s September or October issue is all about 2018 trucks and SUVs. No NVPs, actually no large passenger vans. NVPs are definitely trucks. Are they SUVs? What about 4x4 conversions?

Are there a Canada and Mexico versions of this? I clicked on foreign country and it was a world map. Maybe I didn’t look at it closely enough.

Great idea. Not the easiest process to download it. Took a screen shot and saved it... Oklahoma and Arkansas were missed due to tornados on a spring trip to DC. Headed farther south into Texas to run into severe weather coming in from the gulf. We also had considered going to New England to see family. Too long a trip.

Your friends are "dirtbags" in the true sense. Take an old van and convert it... then park it a beautiful area and go surfing etc.
