The blog text also is worth reading, particularly the bio and myfi info. We can all identify with having/pursuing a dream and finding out we really didn't want it after all. In this case, the first owner did the initial work, put 5000 miles on the odometer, mostly to the "hardware store," and decided it wasn't an ideal dream after all. The second owner had a similar dream and took over...reconversion. If we had a hightop, we would have tried to keep a clear pass through to the rear doors. Since he appears to mostly travel solo and sleep in a sleeping bag, it would be relatively easy to make a slide out bed platform for a companion. Ah! To be young... wait a minute, we are doing this...

It is almost impossible to find campervan blogs that aren't VW. Here is one worth looking at if you are considering a camperized NV. vanlifetravelogue.com

CHIRICAHUA NATIONAL MONUMENT This campground is 131 miles from our front door. Great place for winter camping. There is a 29' vehicle limit on the road past the visitor center and in the campground. Narrow road and tight turn into the campground along with steep dips into and out of a stream bed. Dry most of the year. Perfect, however, for camperized NVs. Dogs are only allowed on the Bonita Creek trail. Access to other trails is from the visitor center up, or you can take the morning (9:00 am for now) shuttle to the top, hike the trails on top and hike down to the visitor center. Faraway Ranch house is worth taking the tour. To the right of the entrance is Pinery Canyon Road; this will take you to Rustler Park and Cave Creek. Dirt road and closed in the winter. There also is Turkey Creek and Rucker Canyon to the south. Some additional info on nearby forest service camping: Dispersed camping in Pinery Canyon (open April-November, 7000') after you cross the Forest Service boundary. Rustler Park (open April-October, 8500') has a $10 fee. Turkey Creek and Sycamore are open all year, no fee. Rucker Canyon has 3 campgrounds. Bathtub (6300') is dispersed; Cypress Park (6000') and Rucker Forest Camp (6500') have $10 fees. NO Water at any of the above. The dirt road continues to Portal on the east side of the Chiricahuas. There are 5 campgrounds (5100-5800') that are open all year, John Hands and Herb Martyr (dispersed camping), Sunny Flat and Stewart ($10 fee). Only Sunny Flat has water. This is a pretty, but very remote area and not likely to be on anuone's cross country tour, unless seeking refuge from the cold north is the reason to be in the southwest.

Wollip, I wouldn't worry about being close to, but under 9100 lbs as the vehicle is built for this. Nissan probably expected the limit to be pushed by commercial users. I would be concerned, not overly, about the center of gravity in certain conditions, but this may be more of a loading issue. (UHaul has instructions for loading trailers and moving trucks. Did we ever follow them?) Since you have high cabinets, you can put light items in them, or take less stuff. As rick Steves says, we never say "I should have packed heavier." Same for what you put on the roof. We are constantly eliminating things and not trying to be prepared for every possible condition. Water is the exception out west...but there always is Walmart. What are the real differences between the 2500 and 3500? Larger tires and 1 more leaf in the suspension... Same brakes, powertrain, tow capability. Wait and see what needs to be replaced and why.

The form may be a "some" states or regional chain restriction. Our NV originally was from a Southern California dealer; we bought it from a dealer near San Francisco, but picked it up from the SMB factory in Fresno. Writing the check was easier than figuring out its journey from Canton, Mississippi to us.

Anyone else notice the NV Cargo X promo at the bottom of the 2017 Nissan Commercial site. This is from the show mentioned in the first post by KMG. Just shows us how tough our basic NVs are.

Mahu Start at a Nissan dealership, not Reno per your service experience, body shop to get an estimate. Rear panel damage is a pain to fix, but they may be able to pull it out without messing with the interior. The taillight shouldn't be a problem. The hinge may look scraped but it probably is worse; it took a real jolt so make sure the door closes correctly and doesn't leak. You may have to go back to Santa Rosa for the hose test not to freeze...

60k is behind us, so is most of the 2012 warranty. I looked at the warranty book and was surprised at what coverage remained and what voids warranties. Read the latter very carefully. This is from memory so I may not have all the numbers correct. Feel free to correct them. The battery has an 84 month, prorated warranty. Firestone tires start at 8/32 tread and i believe have a 6 year, 1/32 left defect warranty but road hazard damage etc is not covered. OEM tires do not come with a mileage expectation or limit. Corrosion is covered for vehicle life for the original owner only but it isn't clear if struts etc are covered or not. There is mention of replacement parts getting a lifetime warranty if the work is done by Nissan. Nissan has a lot of wiggle room in warranties, but it has been refreshing to see how willing they are to honor warranties. Some prodding has been necessary...

2017 NV3500 going to crack the gas mileage barrier finally?

trucktrend.com just named Nissan Titan the 2017 truck of the year. Maybe more info... -
100% Confirmed Change for 2017
radin2son replied to Chris_CommercialManager's topic in Lounge - Nissan NV
Interesting brief article in trucktrend.com that Ford held back production of F150 and Transits due to too much dealer inventory. Regarding the Transit, Ford seems to be waiting for private buyers. Judging by what is on the road, sales were huge for fleet buyers. -
An employee at the NV dealership in Colorado Springs thought the V6 on their lot as a rental was underpowered. He used it to take family to a reunion.
-
Thanks for the info. Anyone doing this? How often and at what mileage?

ASD Dad, this topic has become ambidextrous... Bragging rights are ok but I agree not worrth much. What psi did you run the oem Transforce? Did it differ between daily and towing use? I get why you went to AT tires. We got caught on a rain soaked clay road. I couldn't hold a straight line no matter what gear or mpg... mph not mpg.
-
This forum is not the easiest to dredge up prior posts. Many of the questions you ask have been well documented by ASD Dad, Axulsuv, Chris_cm, KMG and others. If you have read these posts, ask them directly for additional info. Chris posted a build link. There also is a link to Nissan parts. Good luck with your project. It will be interesting if you can maintain 17-18 mpg.

Fenderfatstrat6 Back to your question regarding optimal psi for best mpg. Check Axulsuv's prior posts under maintenance. Although the above post doesn't mention specific psi, he has the best inclass mpg (NV 1500 "barebones V6") of 21+. He used his for carrying his motorcycle and camping. It also may have been a daily driver, which is now a KIA Soul. I don't know what the best mpg for the current V8 is. A barebones low top cargo should get this. (Bamps?) I've read your posts about your 2012 NV. I am not sure if this is an impossible dream or you can pull this project off. At least the winter is long in Syracuse and you will have plenty of time to work on it. When you can, fill the tank, get on the road and see what you get.

Stick with the factory specs: 50 psi front and 80 psi rear. Oops! Edit. This discussion WASN'T about dealer error BUT IT WAS about recommended psi. Some people will go 5 psi under for what ever reason, but I wouldn't. Dealers will put in 3-5+ psi more to be sure the tires are correctly inflated when cold. Your gauge in the morning should read 50 psi front/80 psi rear. Adjust accordingly. Oddly, when we drove 490 miles on 80 psi front and 50 psi rear, I didn't feel any difference in driving. TPMS didn't alert me that there was a problem. Ignorance is bliss... we were an accident waiting to happen. 95* on mountain roads. For whatever reason we decided to bypass Moki Dugway to the top of Cedar Mesa. (Bears Ears country if you have been following the news.) Think: 90s Explorer+Firestone+underinflated=fatalities ASD Dad is correct. You will wear out your tires faster if overinflated. We have 60k on oem Firestone transforce tires. Axulsuv had 75k on his before he sold his NV 1500.

2017 NV3500 going to crack the gas mileage barrier finally?
radin2son replied to breeze's topic in Nissan NV 3500 HD
Absolutely correct. Your NV will give what it can based on use. Our camperized NV weighs the same as a NVP and typically carries 1000# in gear. It is capable of getting 16+ mpg but this is not a realistic expectation. Our last trip 2 weeks ago was 14.65 mpg mainly due to not so great driving conditions. Nothing you can do except fill the tank. -
Received a survey request from Nissan today. I responded and included info regarding this being the second time the psi was screwed up, as well as it not being an isolated incident. Included the Reno dealership and the delivery of a new van with 70+ psi all around. Don't know how seriously Nissan takes these surveys. Happy New Year!

2017 NV3500 going to crack the gas mileage barrier finally?
radin2son replied to breeze's topic in Nissan NV 3500 HD
trucktrend.com had a short article (12/5) on the 2017 NV and estimated 14-15 mpg mixed driving. Many/some of us are getting this already with the current V8. I was looking at several trips this year, and we averaged 16.5 to 16.8 mpg. Overall for 2016, we averaged 15.3 mpg. -
Just goes to show you that the only Nissan employee up to the task is the person who installs the paper floor mat and plastic seat cover. Give them a decent tire gauge and the job will get done.

Thanks. Other sites use this as a way for like minded users, similar to walking around a campground and chatting with other campers. Drives my wife crazy when I'm chatting instead of completing some chore... our dogs recognize this behavior and get comfortable. Saw a java (I think that is what it's called) NVP going west on I-10 near Benson on our way to the Chiricahua NM. Woman driver definitely was looking at our NV going east. What the...is that? At the campground, we met a couple from Idaho who had a year old class C Mercedes built by Pleasureway ($140k). It had a murphy bed on the driver's side just behind the cabin. When up, there was a sofa and storage under the sofa. Might work in a NV build. He reported he was getting 14-16 mpg.

Camperized white high top NV 2500 with CA plates outside WF at Ina and Oracle, Tucson. Anyone on the forum?
-
Judging by the size of the snow family, they are not yet in need of an NVP, unless they have to tow a snow horse trailer and need room for their snow dogs...
-
It could be interesting but doubt they will respond. If the Reno GM doesn't get back to you, contact Nissan Commercial customer service, or what every name they go by. You will have to call them, unless they added a written format. This process has been inconsistent at best. I didn't contact them regarding the Jim Click Nissan psi/tpms screwup as I spoke with the service manager and he and the tech went over the service again. I did complete a negative evaluation that was emailed to me by the dealer. No evaluation request by Nissan, however. If you do contact commercial customer support be sure to tell them this is not an isolated incident and give them whatever info you info you want from our experience x2.
