  1. Happy Holidays, all that apply, and a Peaceful New Year. This snow family was at the gate of a ranch just outside the entrance to Chiricahua National Monument.
  2. While adding a date to the 60k service in the manual, I noticed that replacing the automatic transmission fluid is not needed for NVs and 370Zs. Nice company we keep. On page 12, it is described as "maintenance free." Really? No where could I find when it should be replaced. They check it... For other vehicles towing,"using a camper" or driving on rough, muddy roads it should be replaced every 30k. This would save $168 on labor and parts. The 60k should run $525 or so. I'm inclined to replace it every 30k.
  3. No worries. Too little mileage. At worst you maybe scrubbed a little more rubber off the center tread than normal over 100 miles. The first time this happened to us at 30k, we drove from Tucson to Blanding, UT. Rear tires looked a little low but TPMS appeared to say the pressure was right on. System has to be reset to be able to tell tires are rotated. No problem whatsoever with any of the tires. Even wear. At 60k, there is still 5/32 tread left. OK for here, but marginal to worthless where you are. Time to replace them...
  4. There are several synthetic oil change schedules posted that fall well below the recommended mileage. Given this is a person preference or is based on severe driving conditions, is there any data to support this? Wouldn't it be great if Nissan would release the data on the 500k NV used by Above and Beyond delivery based in Phoenix. Chris_cm had a NV cargo that was traded in with 300k on the odometer.
  5. They had to work hard to get the pressure screwed up like that. It may be best for the techs to delegate psi checks to the person who puts the paper mats on the floor when you drop vehicle off for service. I wouldn't be worried about that tire at all...
  6. Thanks. Sounds about right for 10k. We paid $61 in Grande Prairie, Alberta in 2013 on our trip to Alaska. On our return, I "wanted" more than an oil change at 15k. Did I get it, up the... $337. Beware of the packaged service options and stick to the service manual. As my VW mechanic commented, it didn't hurt the vehicle, only my wallet. Other dealer oil changes were around $32 to $50. Several were free (don't remember why). 30k service was $688. At 50k I switched to synthetic at $95. Prior to owning our NV, we took all our vehicles to our VW mechanic. Since he doesn't travel with us, we look for NV dealers. Consistent service and if something goes wrong you only have to deal with Nissan.
  7. What did 10k and 15k service cost? Or, do you have a service contract? I'm curious to see if service costs vary region by region. Jim Click inTucson offers lifetime service contracts with new and used vehicles for vehicles purchased. Sounds free but it costs $999. I don't have this and wonder if it covers more than basic service. I would guess it wouldn't cover synthetic oil.
  8. Spoke with the service manager prior to picking up/driving away in our NV. Explanation for psi screwup was the techs are not familiar enough with NVs to routinely think/adjust psi and tpms. I thought commercial dealers had NV specific techs as part of the package. A second explanation was most NV owners use the express service to get in and out. So no tire rotation. He checked the psi just before I drove away but his gauge only went to 75 psi. One thing I learned was that tech "computer" psi readouts are lower than a gauge and techs add 5 psi more than required, unless it is a NV and they add/subtract zero. In Wyoming, another dealer put in 3 psi more.
  9. No one should; that's the asking price depending on negotiating skills. One of the shuttle vans is coming up on 70k and will be recycled. The driver of the one I was in said he also like driving NVPs. Only problem he's had is the TPMS warning. Right after he said that, the check engine light came on. Soon as he got back to the dealership, he would have them check it. My guess is these will be a good buy...
  10. Regarding the used 2016 NVP SL for $37k with 17k on the odometer, the shuttle driver this morning told me the owner was transferred to the new CAT facility in Tucson. His wife didn't like the NVP and they bought a Chrysler Pacifica. Jim Click also ownes that dealership. It will be close to 80* and sunny today, so a good time to visit the SW... maybe buy a NVP.
  11. Not again! Tires rotated, psi not adjusted. Right after the 30k service, started a trip with 80 psi in front and 50 psi in rear. Yesterday, I asked them to specifically check the psi since the weather colder and to check the psi in the spare. This morning, I checked the psi. 70+ psi in front and 40+ psi in the rear. Called the service manager and brought it in. Once again, the only thing I know about yesterday's service is that they rotated the tires. I guess the lesson learned is "carry a tire gage..." and check the pressure before you pay. Or, find another dealer, with the closest being in Phoenix. My Independent VW mechanic will laugh and again offer to do the service.
  12. Death trap? Hardly, with the truck frame and all the airbags (assuming the integrity of the airbag manufacturer). The truck may be totaled but the occupants should be fine, provided everyone/thing is belted in and tied down. The first NV I saw was a high top cargo. Next time I saw it, someone had t-boned it. No roll over. Looked awful, but it was still in use.
  13. Took our NV in for the 60k service this morning. The standard service is in the manual. It includes replacing brake fluid. General maintenace guidelines recommend the following optional service at 60k: replacing the transmission fluid and drive belts. No need (?) to flush the transmission, but they did this ($35) anyway. Adding the optional service and synthetic oil brought the total cost to $694.(No where near what a Sprinter would cost.) Everything else checked out fine. Transforce tires hanging in there, but will need to be replaced before the next long trip. Reliability! NVP SL (x3) are the shuttle vehicles for the 5 or so dealerships Jim Click owns. Never seen a NVP this close up or ridden in one. "Very nice (as the driver indicated) truck."
  14. Welcome. Thanks for getting back to the forum, as a lot of people use the forum when searching or buying and for whatever reason disappear. 15 year old Ford...100,000 miles. Wonder how long it will take you to get to same mileage? The 5 year/100k warranty is there but there have been very few reports of needing it.
  15. You must have more exposed metal to be able to attatch it out harm's way. It is a good fit and the extra ventilation is worth it.
  16. The only commercial dealership in Tucson has zero, new 2016 NVs, not counting 1 NV 200, on the lot. They rarely have more than a few, but this can't be good business. Chris_cm mentioned his dealership the 3rd best NV seller. Wonder where the 1 and 2 markets are? Do they get more NVs to sell? They do have a used 2016 NVP SL for $37,000+ with 17,000+ miles.
  17. Welcome. Were given any numbers, as in MSRP, and specs for the 2017 model? The big question may be, Who will arrive first? #5 or your NV?
  18. Welcome. ...when Nissan Commercial realizes and cargo and passenger are completely different markets.
  19. trucktrend.com has a short article on the new NV V8. 14-15 mpg vs 13+ mpg. A lot of us already get this with the old V8. Be sure to check out the "wrap" link in the article. TT continues to use this van and it appeared in their "desert" truck the year segment. Edgar, Sportsmibile did a one-off NV hightop with shower and portapot combo in the rear, driver's side. Portapot could be stored in a cabinet or in the shower base. Curtain for privacy so weight gain and plumbing would be minimal. You need a lot of water for a shower or count on a water hook up. The bed (gaucho) was along the side behind the driver's seat. It folded out toward the slider. Still had plenty of room for cabinets with walk through to the rear doors. A rear facing awning (SMB did this on a Transit) and screens would give you added space. The beauty of 20' is you can beat most length. retractions.
  20. As long as you can find space for a larger fridge, it is a good choice. Fewer stops for groceries, plus many rural areas are food deserts. Great work. Two things missing in these build threads are smoke and carbonmonoxide detectors. We have both. The smoke detector can be annoying when cooking but we know it works. Do you need these? I know of at least one camper van, not ours, that caught fire while the occupants were asleep. The detector prevented injuries and major damage.
  21. 2 road trips I always wanted to do since I was a teenager are the TransCanada Hwy (living in northern Quebec at the time) and the Pan Amsrica Hwy (born in Venezuela). Prior to our trip to Alsska, we bought an "easy to read" road map of Cananda and Alaska. My first thought was we bought the wrong map. There wasn't enough detail in the western provinces. Duh! The empty space was just that. We also bought "Mile Post" but it is not with it. You will find all you need at the many visitor centers. GPS works fine. Pay attention to the signs near towns that provide radio stations call signs. On our return, we drove down the coast to San Diego. We have a map of Mexico but are unsure if/when we'll use it. As for the TransCanada Hwy, who knows? It will, however, take us to the TransLabrador Hwy...
  22. Saw white lowtop NVs near Deming on 1-10 and another in Albuquerque on 1-25. There is a dealer in Albuquerque; another in Roswell. Just south of Socorro on 1-25 saw black NVP 4x4 with rack. (We were heading north under the radar in our '05 tdi, so we were just another car.) Anyone on the forum? Last was a white hightop at BW+ in Santa Fe with a "full windows" look. TX plate with brush bar on front. Anyone on the forum? Wonder who will be the one to sight the finished "Charley" on the road?
  23. Truck Trend did a long term test. If I recall correctly, they liked it. To me it looks smaller than the Ford, Ram or MB products. It would be interesting to see if the Chevy version costs less.
  24. PM Chris_cm as he may not see your post. If anyone knows about this he will. Are you at the point where mpg is more important than utility? If I recall, you were working out of a station wagon or small van. Honda Element?
  25. Photos give the impression of a very tight space. Some do attempt to sleep crosswise. Even with the bumpouts you see on some Outside Van conversions, this would not work for most people.
