Tow Mode Button Missing, but full tow package is there otherwise
crusty replied to whoinow's topic in Nissan NV 3500 HD
V6 or V8? Only the V8 has the button. The V8 is a part from the Titan that has a tow mode. The V6 is a part from the Frontier that does not. -
SIRIUSXM failure on 2017 NV3500 Passenger van
crusty replied to venutian5's topic in Audio & Navigation
Disconnect the battery, wait at least 10 minutes, connect. Amazing how much weird stuff can be fixed with a simple disconnect/reconnect power. There is no "module" for XM. In the past in other vehicles it existed, but not in the vans. It is built into the radio/navi as one. -
Tread pattern will change fuel economy, wheel size won't. Tire size will change odometer accuracy which will appear to change fuel economy. A larger overall diameter will probably reduce economy but since the odometer will be under reporting mileage you may see an increase in apparent economy.

The filter is in the pump inside the tank. No external filter. the fuel is also the coolant to keep the pump cool. Running low on fuel can lead to a hot running pump and more pump wear. Long term issues.

2013 NV2500 keyless entry fob
crusty replied to HERvan's topic in Alarms, Keyless Entry, Locks & Remote Start
Have you looked for a YouTube video and see if there is a step that is done a little different from how you do it? I recall that there are many little things that have to be right. Are all the doors closed fully, what is done after the programming for it to take a set. There may be a little step you are missing, or misinterpreting from the written instructions. I've done that many times. On paper it says to do this, but there are two different ways this can be done and I chose the non-normal way. Don't know it was wrong until I see someone else do it right. -
Can the stock 130a alternator and v8 handle a 50a load?
crusty replied to JGAN's topic in Nissan NV 2500HD
The stock alternator powers a 400 watt inverter. Once you factor in it isn't 100% efficient, that is about a 40A load. I take that as there is at least 40A of capacity. And that is available while running the A/C, with the radio, wipers, lights, and defrost all running as well. I had an old truck that I put EFI on to replace the carbutator. Once I did that I had charging issues at idle at night with the lights on and the A/C running. Was OK while driving, just idle. Pulled the numbers and it was only a 40A alternator. Which 40A at speed was actually enough. It was just at idle it was a little short. That was a 70s low tech alternator. This modern stuff is really good at idle output. -

Hard to say. Done right, no it shouldn't. Make a mock up of the plug you plan to install. Similar materials, something hard, and about the same size. The lid to a peanut butter jar would probably work fine. Tape it in place, see what happens. The better the mock up, the better the results will be.

Hope things go as planned. Yes, these vans are remarkably comfortable for being a commercial van. I know mine loves to eat up highway miles.

Do you have a link to what exactly you are considering?
-
Yes, works perfect. Installs like a factory designed filter should.

Engine knock on cold start or over night
crusty replied to Great White's topic in Nissan NV 5.6L Engine
Time to call Nissan corporate, not the local dealer. Be nice to them. You have to remember that the dealers are not part of Nissan. The corporate side will know nothing of your history with the dealer. You are dealing with a bad repair. Probably one tiny thing, just don't know what it is. There are field reps that exist just for such issues. -
If you are running a TV and Audio equipment you may want a pure sine wave inverter upgrade anyway. The factory invertor is a modified sine wave (the low grade version of the invertor). I am running a 2kw invertor on a house battery. No issues with electronics nor a worry about running down the starting battery.

NV300 is basicly unknown in this forum. We are mostly based in North America and most of the NVs people are here for are the NV1500, 2500, and 3500 body on frame construction not sold outside of North America. The oddity is the Mexico built NV200, which is different than the European version. The issues you are discussing are unknown to us. Because the vehicle is unknown to us.

What vehicle are you working on? Do you have an aftermarket trailer wiring that has been added?
-
Been dealing with these seats for a decade, never had that issue. Pull the cords, hold, put a shoulder into the seat back.

I might think about it after 10 years or so.

Front End Conversion...
crusty replied to boxpusher's topic in Glass, Headlights, Fog lamps, Lenses & Window Tint
Not a chance. If it worked, it would have been done multiple times by now. -
That's the open diff. Now check Titan axle shafts between locker and non-locker. Bet you will find different part numbers, and lengths. If the axles are not compatible between locker and non-locker Titan rear axles it will also mean the carrier is different (splines and/or offset, I go for offset).
-
If you have a small sliding window, that is aftermarket. Nissan never installed sliding windows in an NV3500. You can't blame Nissan for something that someone did cutting a hole in the side of the van and didn't install it correctly. You have to take that up with the upfitter who installed the aftermarket radio. They could have screwed up working on a Toyota just as well.
-
Look at the axle shafts on the locker/non-locker XDs. I recall they are different lengths. The GNK locker is known for having offset spider gears to fit the locker on one side. What this will mean is the 8-lug axles won't fit the locker. You will need custom made axle shafts with the length matched to the locker and the wheel side matched to the van. It can be done, but it isn't easy. And will need expensive custom made parts.

Potential NV200 replacement test vehicle spotted in CO.
crusty replied to Local Apparent Friday's topic in Lounge - Nissan NV
Correct on NV200s being built in Mexico and exempt from the Chicken tax. The Mexico built version is a good bit different than the European version. Take the B-pillar for example, it is about 6" wider on the Mexico built ones compared to the European version. Quick glance, they look the same. Up close, they are not. -

crusty replied to Local Apparent Friday's topic in Lounge - Nissan NV
Not really. Van is considered a truck and is subject to the Chicken Tax. Ford evaded it with the first generation of Transit Connects by mounting seats in the back and shredding the seats after they were imported. Not long ago there was a lawsuit from the feds looking for back taxes on this. Sprinters were first imported here as a CKD. That is the van was built in Germany, dismantled and shipped as a Complete Knock Down. Once all the parts arrived it was reassembled again. That was actually less expensive than paying the Chicken Tax. The Chicken Tax is what brought foreign auto maker production to the states. Nissan built the first plant in Smyrna to build trucks for the US market to avoid the Chicken Tax. The Chicken Tax does not specify what type of powertrain is in the trucks. So EVs would still be taxed.
