Welcome! There's a ton of info on the forums! If you're not aware, 4wd was never offered stock, it's an added conversion and there are 3 (IIRC) main companies doing it. Be sure to check the classifieds here...4wds have been moving a lot lately and there's a thread with links as people find them as well. If you had to do the conversion out of pocket, it's about 15k last I checked, not including travel to or from. I will mention that the factory 2wd electronic slip is a bit more sure-footed than a traditional non-lsd van, with proper tires and inflation techniques. As to what years are best, I personally favor the first run, but there are many who like the 2nd production as well. The major difference is in the transmission, although there was an engine design update as well. As for what to look for, what particulars are you hoping to find out? Are you just looking for a family bus? What use case requires 4wd? Are you hoping for the v6 or the v8? Where are you located? Will you be towing, etc etc. This forum is great for camaraderie and the much more technical side of NV ownership. For large-family-specific pointers, might I also recommend the unaffiliated Nissan NV Families group...they have a lot of tips and tricks useful for large families. Again, welcome! - laf

Well. Since I posted this, I bought a full woolich setup with the USB-Log3 and the Zextronix Wideband for autotuning used off a dude for $200. I need to buy the harness and base map, but I figured to flash the ECU was 200 each time, so this way I can do it myself at will, and I needed to flash it anyway to adjust some things that the PCV isn't capable of. Dunno yet which direction I'll go, price was just too good to pass up. I have a lot of projects going on on the bike all at once rn, so I need to kinda refocus. First TD is in Apr at this rate, bike is strictly a track bike. I mostly want the dyno for own funsies, but a dude local to me has a mobile unit I might be able to rent instead of dropping the 10g's for something that's just a hobby. I've also already pre-purchased 12 TDs for next season, although I will likely do more than that. I'm also toying with the idea of selling my BMW in the spring and picking something else up, but I really need to get serious about this van build too. Never enough time in the day.

@aztec Figured we'd pick up the bike convo somewhere else so we don't jam up whitewhale's thread. "Yah I'm familiar with the operation...my tuner seems to think he can do better with the PCV that's in there now than the woolich can. I haven't dug into too much comparison beyond reading all of ridgerider's catalog of work that enabled woolich to do what they do. Thought about going that route (romraider) but I have other projects to focus on right now, as the bike is currently in many pieces and I have to fix my wife's after her wreck. +1 for kurvey...we get rider support that makes our pads cheaper elsewhere, but have used them for dzus hardware with pleasant results."

It's okay, I don't think anybody here is going to shame you. I still need to update our thread....we have a side t window and a built-in futon now. Would that be a zx-10r? We haul in an enclosed, but it's a lot of equipment and tools that gets loaded up, and we use pitbull mounts, which are amazeballs if you've never heard of them. Another guy who only has to bring fuel and 1 bike just mounted his TRS right in the van, then unloads at the track and pulls his mattress down in its place, which folds against the wall like a murphy bed. We should probably start a "motovan setup" thread to keep from jamming up whitewhale.

Hit us up! Figured you had to be close with Sheehy plates. We ride primarily with N2...the places you just mentioned are basically all the same tracks we ride. Should be at NCBike starting in Apr and then will be hitting Pittrace, NJMP, and Summit on the reg. Will probably try for that RoadAtl round in July as well, but we also work pit for a sprint team and an endurance team, so I have to see how the schedule is going to shake out. What're ya riding?

#LocalApparentFriday Buildout Thread

Just a heads up, AliExpress is running a black friday sale for another few hours. I've been eyeing cheap chinese diesel heaters for a hot minute, and decided to pick up a lavaner heater after watching McLuckie's reviews and tear-down videos touting the advantage over the standard $100 cheapos. Will get it in and installed and then probably see about ordering the afterburner controller from Australia. Went with diesel because gasoline makes me nervous. Relevant links below; Heater $207.68 shipped after $40 off coupon code. Tear Down Running Review Oh and we added a window to the slider on the van, just been busy. Hope everyone is well. -

I'm not offering opinion, just objective observation. I can save you having to look in to it, as 90% of my mechanical repair projects are ethanol related. Ethanol is hygroscopic in nature, which then leads to phase separation when the ethanol is blended into a petroleum mixture. The resulting slurry can be incredibly corrosive at worst and frustratingly cloggy at best. If you have to use ethanol-blended products, do your best to minimize exposure to moisture-rich air and try to burn through the gas in less than a month's time. If you are forced to store the fuel for any amount of time, keep the tank full to minimize air volume, and use an additive product like K100 (readily available at NAPA) to minimize the chances of phase separation, but do note that additives are good from the time the bottle is opened, not the time that it is added to the tank. Pure-gas is one place where you can look for eth free, for those of us in the states. -

Computers do not generally count down to zero. Once you get to a certain mileage, they just flash dashes to warn you that you're about to run out and that is a really good time to see a gas station on the horizon. As to the downsides to ethanol, I am happy to go in to depth without discussing politics if you'd like, but the short version is avoid it at all costs in anything that you won't burn through completely in less than a month's time. Happy Thanksgiving to those of you all that are celebrating today. -laf -

I'm sure there's a ton, I just try to post either the ones that are a deal and/or the ones that are good comps for the rare vans, like conversions/n6/etc. Feel free to post 'em up as you find them. -
Anything'll fit if you get it moving fast enough or, alternatively, it only "won't fit" the first time. ?

Gorgeous piece of lumber, it'll be neat to see it in place. Interesting tidbit of Americana...at one point in history, stainless boxes were regularly obtainable that secured to the exhaust manifolds and allowed one to cook food while driving using the heat from the engine. Likely would come with one of those fancy california warning stickers, these days.

Does forum continue after 2021 demise of NVs?
Local Apparent Friday replied to radin2son's topic in Lounge - Nissan NV
My sentiments exactly, which is what prompted me to reach out a couple months back. Prior to that, it had been some time since anybody from admin had [actively] checked in. TBH the mod duties are relatively light. Whatever anti-spam measures Robert has built/is using do a bangup job of keeping out most of the riff raff. -

Looking great! Glad you're happy with the van. -
I ended up installing it with windoweld and then sealing it with the flextseal aerosol. I have never used it and wanted to see what it was like. So far, still dry.

Found in the wild. Don't have one, can't confirm, but hopefully this helps.
